We have just been.

Thought it was really good. Very much like Stranger Things and charming. Not a scary film, but very entertaining nonetheless.

Child actors were brilliant, especially the girl. Our teens loved it.

Dalphidol · 09/09/2017 08:39

I'm going tonight and can't wait. Was a huge Stephen King fan as a teen and that was the second book of his I read (Pet Semetary the first)

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 09/09/2017 09:26

I saw it. Thought it was creepy rather than scary. Children are great in it. Liked it a lot.

Boatmistress17 · 09/09/2017 09:30

Ds 13 managed to get in to see it last night. . Odd bloody child. .

Pastacube · 09/09/2017 17:14

Really good fun much better than I was expecting

BuzzKillington · 09/09/2017 20:30

Yes, def more creepy than scary.

Saw it today and absolutely loved it. Favourite bits were the sun bathing scene and the rock throwing. Thought the child actors were all absolutely amazing (loved Ritchie and Ben in particular, but all excellent). The worst thing about it was Pennywise, who I thought was too Grinch-like.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 09/09/2017 21:52

Not scary at all - and I'm a wuss when it comes to horror films, (I found the girl's father to be more scary than the clown).

ThoseFemalesAreStrongAsHell · 09/09/2017 21:57

I went to a midnight showing on thursday night. It is not overly scary but unlike most other horrors you really get to know and like the characters. And the scary parts are broken up with humour too so its not constant scares. I would recommend. You'll float too.

Kursk · 09/09/2017 22:03

We live in Maine, Red balloons have been randomly appearing in places.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/09/2017 22:46

Said exactly the same about Beverley's father, when I left the cinema. Creepy.

Love the red balloons in Maine story!

PresentlyTense · 09/09/2017 22:47

Going tomorrow. Big SK fan. I can't waitGrin

Middleoftheroad · 10/09/2017 08:28

Enjoyable. Need to re-read book. Some bits that I like were missing but hard to cram a massive book into even a two part film.

@Kursk I have always wanted to go to Maine (despite so many disturbing events in SK books!) it looks beautiful

Saucery · 10/09/2017 16:58

It was ok as a stand alone film, but you didn't get the sense of dread and history there is in the book, or all the ways It has caused death and destruction in It's 27 year cycle. Character of Mike changed too much, playing to stereotypes with the Tough Grandpa, the abattoir and the conflating the fire at the Black Spot with his parents.
Was very glad they altered the Beverley having sex with all the boys bit. That has never sat well with me.
Entertaining though, in an Evil Dead way. Loved Pennywise's voice, multi-tracked and tweaked to induce an atavistic fear.

Sorelip · 10/09/2017 17:00

I was really disappointed by the film. It just didn't scare me.

endehors · 10/09/2017 17:01

Is it better than the series version? I thought that was rather well done.

Kursk · 11/09/2017 01:58

Middleoftheroad

It really is beautiful, I love living here but it can be creepy. Walking in the woods alone your mind can get the best of you.

I was told never use a torch in the woods at night, it will freak you out. I never believed them and tried it one evening. The multiple sets of eyes reflecting back was enough to make me never want to go out after dark again!

DH uses the Spolding Turnpike to get to work.

MakeItStopNeville · 11/09/2017 02:04

So, here it's an R but in the U.K. It's a 15, right?! My 13 and 14 holds really want to go see it. Is it ok for them? I never say yes to R rated movies, except for Mad Max!

MakeItStopNeville · 11/09/2017 02:06

And we watch Stranger Things as a family.

MadisonAvenue · 11/09/2017 02:09

Went to see it tonight and really enjoyed it. Bear in mind that I'm not a movie lover and haven't been to the cinema since the final Harry Potter was released but I couldn't wait to see this.
Not especially scary but really well done. And the scenery throughout was beautiful. I agree that Beverley's father was creepy.

Really need Chapter 2 to be made now.

SheGotOffThePlane · 11/09/2017 03:45

I went to see it on Saturday and loved it. I'm a total wuss when it comes to horror films but it wasn't as scary as i thought. More creepy than anything - although I think Pennywise was almost comical.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/09/2017 20:10

I think they deliberately made PW increasingly less scary and more comical, as the children realised that he was playing on their fears. By uniting and seeing him as pretty pathetic, it made them stronger, and him more ridiculous.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 12/09/2017 12:11

Wasn't scary but enjoyable and the children were good! Good that they built the characters up as well rather then here's a thing that's happening to someone know nothing about

Looking forward to the sequel/part 2...watched the original ages ago but we couldn't be bothered to turn the disk over..so never saw the part with them being adults etc so be good to see it when comes out.

Clown was kinda cute. Ish..Nice in real life!

HalfShellHero · 12/09/2017 15:50

Saw it today ...brilliant! Disturbing and freaky but bloody brilliant!! Id watch it again ...the gruesomeness towards children maybe too much for some though.
