Brilliant film but can't take kids to see it. So much bad language and one frightening scene where a man is formed from a skeleton layer by layer showing all the body parts

It is a 12a though, which implies that it's up to you as a parent to judge it. How old are your children?

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 28/04/2017 14:42

Here's the BBFC notes.

You raise an interesting point. This is a 12A. The majority of parents would be prepared to let their 12 year old DC hear the word "shit" and see a slightly gory scene I'm guessing - the problem lies with the increasing expectation that Marvel films will be suitable for 6 year olds unless they're actually classified as 15s. Advice remains the same as ever - the distinction between U and PG and 12A is not made on the toss of a coin: if you want to take your 8 year to a 12A or your 3 year old to a PG then be prepared to do research in advance and don't whinge if they're swearing or having nightmares afterwards.

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 28/04/2017 14:44

We don't know that the OP has taken younger DC to see it - she might be a 38 week pregnant twentysomething having a sneaky maternity leave lunchtime cinema trip and feeling the need to leave her ante natal thread to share a warning to parents.

AssassinatedBeauty · 28/04/2017 14:45

I assumed she meant her kids, rather than kids generally, but I see your point!

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 28/04/2017 14:45

I'm still pretty scarred from the first film when the raccoon cried.

I wanted to hug him.

FreeNiki · 28/04/2017 15:10

I can't wait to see it.

FreeNiki · 28/04/2017 18:30

An hour into it....why did i bother. Not remotely funny.

FreeNiki · 28/04/2017 20:44

That was abysmal. Absolute crap.

People walked out as soon as the credits rolled and there were about 4 extra scenes during the credits.

Ledehe · 28/04/2017 23:33

Absolutely amazing. Brilliant from start to finish. Hilarious, great storyline and just as good, if not better than the first.

Tartyflette · 28/04/2017 23:39

Well. What do I do now? One for, one against.
The Grauniad gave it three stars (out of five) .
I loved Chris Pratt in the first one and was so looking forward to Vol 2.
Anyone else seen it yet?

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 28/04/2017 23:46

I'd like to lick Chris Pratt.

He was smoking hot in Jurassic World with his pet Raptors.

Ledehe · 28/04/2017 23:50

Well to be fair the op said it was a brilliant film but they couldn't take their kids to see it.

So really 2-1

Davros · 29/04/2017 00:37

We loved it and thought it was very funny. It did go a bit overboard on the sentimentality in parts but it would then be brought back down to earth (or wherever they were) with a joke or fight or both. Effects were brilliant. No-one left our cinema until the very end

Millerr · 29/04/2017 06:50

We all thought it was brilliant. My little brother, who is 15, is obsessed with superheroes and I will admit some film are a bit dull if you don't share his enthusiasm (think Batman vs Superman...). However GotG was one of the films everyone enjoyed regardless and the second one did not disappoint in that respect.

Content wise there is a bit of swearing and some of the scenes could be upsetting I guess.

Worth bearing in mind it is over 2 hours long though. My little nephew (who is 3) loved the first one. He was desperate to see this but we did not take him and I am glad we didn't as I don't think it would have held his attention at all.

fairiedemon · 29/04/2017 07:06

I went to see if yesterday and thought it was far more enjoyable than the first (despite a couple of issues with the projection thought out the film Sad ) I am surprised it was a 12a especially as there was a scene with a vey high death count, much more than I have seen in any other other marvel film. There was overall more violence too, but no blood so I suppose that's how they got away with it.

scrabble1 · 29/04/2017 20:09

I went to see it on my own. I wouldn't take our 11 year old as it has bad language in it like douchebag/fuck etc

PinkFluffiUnicorn · 29/04/2017 20:21

I went today with ds12,dd11 & Dm don't think there was actually any f words, just implied. We all loved it, high death count and a bit wierd building a human from skeleton, but I don't think it was worse than scary Dr Who episodes.

AlexanderHamilton · 29/04/2017 20:24

The kids went to see it today. They really enjoyed it. Dd is Marvel obsessed but very particular that the films have to be right.

Cinema was full apparently.

Possumfish · 29/04/2017 22:06

Saw it this afternoon. Enjoyed it mostly. Found it to be a bit last of a slow start. And the plot was rather obvious. Some great jokes and visual effects. There were some very small children in our showing who really shouldn't have been there as they got bored half way through and became disruptive.

Bambambini · 29/04/2017 22:32

Great fun, kids 11 and 14 loved it (and Chris Pratt worked for me) - the opening scene was great fun and my kids really, really want a Baby Groot now.

PersonalClown · 29/04/2017 23:16

We saw it this afternoon. We loved it.

(Shhh. I have a Baby Groot from the end of the last film in his plant pot!)

Tartyflette · 30/04/2017 01:26

Just got back from seeing it and have to confess I was a little disappointed. It was OK, but not much more than that.
The music was great as were the jokes but I thought the plot was sacrificed for the cgi effects, which were sometimes so over the top as to make it difficult to follow what was happening. At other times it was a little slow.
I too thought it got a bit mawkish in places. But I liked the after-credits scenes, especially adolescent Groot.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/04/2017 01:41

Oh I absolutely loved it. Absolutely brilliant film. So funny, great music, great effects and characters.

Well worth it! Looking forward to the next one already.

ButtMuncher · 30/04/2017 17:02

Really enjoyed it, but totally got me feeling emotions that I didn't expect. Soundtrack wasn't quite the same but the film wasn't the same as the first - was grittier. Won't be taking 8 y/o DSS to see it - he loved the first one but the skeleton bit really would freak him out.

fairycakecentral · 30/04/2017 19:30

I thought it was ok, DS (nearly 10) and DH loved it. It was funny, but like so many films these days, it is over reliant in CGI at expense of a good plot. A few bad language words and couple if minor sexual references that (hopefully ) went over DSs head. I was a bit bored, but I'm not a great superhero film fan so I'm probably not these best judge .
