Beauty and the Beast suitable for a 3 year old?

My friend is desperate to take my dd to see Beauty and the Beast. I have my reservations. I'm worried that it will be too frightening for her (the Beast, the castle, the bit with the wolves etc) and she'll start crying and want to leave. Can anyone who has seen the film tell me whether this film is suitable for such a young child?

I've seen the film and have a almost 3 year old desperate to see it but I don't think it's suitable. Bit too dark in places with the wolves and the Beast could be a little scary as well.

Just as I thought really. My dd is sensitive anyway so I didn't think it was a good idea. Will wait until she's older to let her see it. Thank you for your reply.

My friend took her 3yo and she loved it. And this was a kid who had to leave Moana when the crab came on. She did say she closed her eyes twice though.

TheElephantofSurprise · 02/04/2017 18:55

No, because that is a satyr. A satyr. Just. Search satyr. Beast, pfft! What kind of business takes a drunken sex-fiend and markets it to children? Not good.

Desperad0 · 02/04/2017 18:58

3yo dc went with the gp and said it was scary

Patriciathestripper1 · 02/04/2017 19:01

My 10 yr old went with school freinds and she didn't like the beast when he first came on. And she isn't a wuss.

Patriciathestripper1 · 02/04/2017 19:04

Elephant - what do you mean?

nonameinspiration · 02/04/2017 19:07

My 7 and 4 year olds both cried and were scared. When your kid gets older the film will still be there

WhisperingLoudly · 02/04/2017 19:07

Aside from the fact that the wolves and beast are a bit scary I'd have thought a 3 year old would find it dull. My 6 year old didn't love it

TheElephantofSurprise · 02/04/2017 21:53

Patricia - if you search 'satyr' and look at the images, you will see how close it is to the 'Beast'. Read up on satyrs, they are connected with drink and sex. That's all. Really not nice for children.

My 3 year old ds loved it, hasn't shut up about it since he saw it. Jumped at one bit bit it was how loud it was.

BadTasteFlump · 13/04/2017 21:15

Elephant I think you're overthinking it a tad Hmm

Justmadeperfectflapjacks · 13/04/2017 21:17

Ds 2.6 loved it so much he wouldn't take hie eyes off the screen to eat his popcorn!

Iamastonished · 13/04/2017 21:21

I am surprised at some parents taking 2 and 3 year olds to the film. I wouldn't have done. It is PG for a reason.

WaitrosePigeon · 13/04/2017 21:22

Took mine. She was two weeks off four though. She loved it.

BadTasteFlump · 13/04/2017 21:23

I loved it - I do think it would be a bit scary for young children though.

Violetcharlotte · 13/04/2017 21:50

Elephant what a load of tosh! Hmm

KeemaNaan · 14/04/2017 12:30

My 7yo was scared by the wolves and generally bored apart from the songs. I'd not take a 3yo.

Reow · 14/04/2017 12:35

Im 33 and had to cover my eyes for some bits Blush

Maurice in the woods with the wolves is pretty traumatic. And the footstool flipping over dead.

And I knew it was going to be a happy ending!

Confused Penelope are you talking about the same film... seems unlikely.

I wouldn't take my almost five year old. It's too scary.

teenmumandsowhat · 15/04/2017 23:34

I took my 4yr old dd and almost 3yr old ds. They loved it, and didn't actually find it that scary, but I did make them watch the original version a couple of times in the weeks before we went, as I find that if they know the story, they are less scared.
My 4yr old is begging to see it again!

elektrawoman · 16/04/2017 00:45

It's quite a long film and slow in places with long music pieces, also the wolves are pretty frightening. I don't think I'd take a 3 year old.

babyinarms · 16/04/2017 00:52

There's a few scary, dark scenes. The wolves are pretty scary too. Not ideal for a 3 yr old I'd say. I ,, on the other hand and my dd (10) loved it. The smurfs might be more suited for a 3 year old maybe ?

Advicewouldbelovelyta · 16/04/2017 19:01

My 4yo loved it and is begging to go again. She sings and dances along :)
