I've just signed up for the Amazon rental thingy and am totally befuddled by the choice. my mind has gone comepletely blank. so far I have

You want to see the Guardian, its an ok movie, but its worth getting because Ashton looks gorgeous in a uniform. (Tom who?)

Havent seen it but I'd be curious to watch little miss sunshine.
thouroughly recommend Pan's labyrinth (in spanish with subtitles). very sad, non hollywood, intelligent movie.
I've been meaning to sign up for something similar, in order to rent some oldies, like anything from Lubitsch to billy wilder.
another very good one was vera drake (trying to think what I watch in the last 5 years.... very little...)

thanks everyone. unfortunately I must have quite similar taste - to the extent that I've seen most of your suggestions! we've managed to get the list up to about 15 now. I'm really excited about it. my main motivation is to have a dvd to watch when the fancy suddently takes us, but also to stop dh buying the bloody things (why??? we watch them once and we have no room to keep them...)
