Anyone else going to see it tonight?

DH and I have had our tickets booked for weeks Grin We also decided to gamble on it being brilliant and booked ourselves in for a showing tomorrow evening as well Blush

After being cynical right up until seeing Force Awakens and being pleasantly surprised I've allowed myself to have high hopes for this one. The cast is pretty solid and the trailers have all been impressive so fingers crossed I won't be disappointed!!

We went to see it on Christmas Eve too.

I can't believe I invested so much in those characters for that to be the ending! Yes I sobbed.

I'm more of a casualSW fan, dh loves them, we all agreed it was a good film and I probably should have been more forewarned but it did really get to me.

Delighted to see another strong female lead in Jyn (?) as well.

LunaLoveg00d · 30/12/2016 13:01

Took my eight year old to see it and we felt it was better than the Force Awakens.

TheMortificadosDragon · 30/12/2016 13:05

I was glad I saw it last week rather than now.

I'm afraid I couldn't quite engage properly because I kept thinking 'she should have stayed in Ambridge' Grin. I feel there must be huge potential for John Finnemore in this...

I went to see it today and I cried at the end Blush.

The ending really stayed with me. And of course, doubly poignant now Sad

"I'm afraid I couldn't quite engage properly because I kept thinking 'she should have stayed in Ambridge'"

Are you mad, woman? Ambridge vs. running around saving the Galaxy with one of the male leads from Y tu mama tambien? (Hands Mortificado a whole packet of grips.)

TheMortificadosDragon · 31/12/2016 23:06

Perhaps its more that I have an excess of grips?Grin

Ordered the DVD via Amazon and looking fwd to watching it on Tuesday.

Badcat666 · 31/12/2016 23:10

Seen it! OMFG!!! it is just like the original trilogys rather than the crappy prequels and the last one they did.

Me and Mr BC said their with our mouths open several times and kept looking at each other mouthing "OMG!" and grinning.

not one for very young kids or those who are a bit sensitive though IMO.

I loved it too! I loved that Disney went there with the ending.

And that moment in the corridor with the terrified rebels, when Darth Vader suddenly appears out of the darkness and starts his murder-rampage gave me chills up the spine. The character scared the shit out of me as child, but he's such a part of popular culture now; so often referenced and spoofed that I thought I'd never find him frightening again, yet the scene succeeded.

I agree with you absolutely on Kylo Ren YorkiesGlasses. I got a bit obsessed after watching The Force Awakens and read loads of interviews and articles, and listened to the commentary on the DVD, and it's obvious from stuff that JJ Abrams, other screen writers and the actor who plays him have said that the characters similarities to Darth Vader are actually quite superficial and he'll go in a different direction in the next few films.

laylabelle · 01/01/2017 16:35

Didn't think the ending would be quite like that!! Did omg a lot lol. Loved it!!! Considering its just one film the characters felt well written and believable..

TwoLeftSocks · 02/01/2017 22:44

DH and I have just been out to see it, I feel a bit underwhelmed. There were bits I really liked, thought the characters and storyline we're pretty good but the CGI, wtf??? Even worse decision than Jar Jar Binks.

TwoLeftSocks · 02/01/2017 22:51

I'm also going to make myself a Star Wars geek badge for linking Saw Guerrera from the Clone Wars animated series.

GrinchyKiwi · 04/01/2017 13:34

Watched it yesterday and mostly loved it, but it did drag at the beginning and there were some unconvincing speeches. Cassian was hot. Grin

As a life-long Star Wars fan it was so exciting to see a proper menacing Darth Vader on the big screen. I loved his scenes.

My main takeaway, however, is how wonderful it is to have another excellent female character for my three girls to grow up watching. Leia, Rey and Jynn, as well as Moana. Disney is doing well these days.

HermioneWeasley · 05/01/2017 20:02

Loved it! Force awakens was a joy, but it was episode 4 retold. This is a whole new story and new characters and I thought it was perfect
