Doesn't have to be horror, can be psychological terror etc. Films that stayed with you and made you think.

Mine are Irreversible, the Poughkeepsie Tapes and Spoorloos (the original Dutch version of The Vanishing).

Battle Royale.

Without question the most disturbing and painful film I've ever seen. Really wish I hadn't.

INeedABiggerBoat · 06/09/2016 19:20

The Riot Club. I was shaking from the horribleness (know that's not a word) of the climactic scene for hours afterwards.

Jellymuffin · 06/09/2016 19:20

Bad Boy Bubby, an Australian film about a man who was kept confined since infancy in an apartment by his mentally ill mother. Watched it years ago but it has stayed with me. Especially the part where he wraps a cat in cling film Sad. Very powerful film.

ArmySal · 06/09/2016 19:21

Funny Games, (the original Austrian one), seriously disturbed me when I watched it at 17.

So bleak.

KoalaDownUnder · 06/09/2016 19:22

Oh god, I'd (mercifully) forgotten about Bad Boy Bubby! Shock

Between that, Wolf Creek, and Snowtown...Australia makes some horrifying movies.

PNGirl · 06/09/2016 19:22

I really enjoyed It Follows. Sort of glad I saw it on DVD as I think large cinema screen would have freaked me out.

I can't watch the ending to REC. as by that point it was fairly clear that nothing nice was going to happen.

Nothing has ever freaked me out as much as Threads though.

1pink4blue · 06/09/2016 19:22

cannibal holocaust i saw it over 10 years ago and it still makes me feel ill just thinking about it

HairyLittlePoet · 06/09/2016 19:23

Another vote for Eden Lake.
Stayed with me for days.

Jellymuffin · 06/09/2016 19:23

Ooooo, just remembered Plague Dogs by the merciless bastards that bought us Watership Down. Just harrowing with no redeeming features.

Augustwedding · 06/09/2016 19:23

Wolf creek whilst travelling in Austrslia and saw

IncidentalAnarchist · 06/09/2016 19:24

The Accused
Eden Lake

CharCharGabor · 06/09/2016 19:25

Also Precious here, harrowing film. And the film with Bjork in it playing a woman who was going blind. Anyone remember the name? I was hysterical at the end Sad

HairyLittlePoet · 06/09/2016 19:25

As for documentary or true life movies, India's Daughter was horrific and desperate and had me crying uncontrollably.

CharCharGabor · 06/09/2016 19:25

Dancer in the Dark, that was it!

Patsy99 · 06/09/2016 19:27

Wolf creek sounds hrim

justinelibertine · 06/09/2016 19:27

Goblin and Ladybird, I well up just thinking of Cher singing the opening song and then, "Don't take my baby!"

Mamatallica · 06/09/2016 19:27

Watership Down, I hate that film, gave me nightmares.

Patsy99 · 06/09/2016 19:27

Grim

feekerry · 06/09/2016 19:33

Wolf creek- torture scenes are some of the worst.
Irreversible- has a awful rape scene in it
Human centipede - just wrong on all levels

SoapAlert · 06/09/2016 19:34

Wolf creek
Candy Man
Poltergeist
Amityville Horror
Nightmare on Elm Street
I mostly watched the above as a child of eleven.

n0ne · 06/09/2016 19:37

Oldboy (the original Japanese one), Requiem for a Dream, Precious and Eraserhead all made me sick

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 06/09/2016 19:38

Kramer v Kramer makes me cry too - Meryl
Streep looks like my mum and Billy is only a bit older than me.

I can see why there are issues with the benefit system but I think that anyone who carps on about it unreasonably should be locked in a darkened room have to watch Cathy Come Home on repeat

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 06/09/2016 19:41

I know my first name is Steven - well that bloody traumatised me for years. Made the mistake of googling during a night feed and found out that Steven had died - cue two hours of sobbing until the next feed

mycatwantstokillme1 · 06/09/2016 19:45

Nil by Mouth

Bambi (gave me my first ever nightmare & I'm sure it's contributed to my fear of death throughout my life!)

TrionicLettuce · 06/09/2016 19:48

10 Rillington Place. The only film that has ever given me nightmares.
