what films to this day make you shudder (spoilers)

I can not take the scene where the man starts to disappear (how do you spell that?) then later you see the man in another time.

I don't really like horror as a genre.

Loads of films I've no desire so see again:

Saw
The descent
The shining

is Saw as bad as its write ups?

Scum. Watched it once in my life when about 17, freaked out and switched it off during the greenhouse scene. Still makes me shudder and feel ill just to think of it.

Serafina - you and me both. That was a truly horrible scene.

For me it's casino. Where they kill joe pesci and his bro. Would never watch it again.

The road too as it shows what desperate people are capable of.

Generation x for reasons I refuse to go into. I wish I had never seen it. Also pans labyrinth.

10 Rillington Place with Richard Attenborough and an episode of the early 70s BBC horror series, Dead of Night, called A Woman Sobbing.

The first remains the only film that has ever given me nightmares (and I've seen endless supposedly terrifying horror films) and the latter messed me up mentally for days.

Pretty Woman makes me shudder, but that's probably not what you meant.

Yes things that are true stories I find quite upsetting.

I can't remember which saw I saw but it was grotesque. I don't know how that can be classed as entertainment.

Pan's Labyrinth. The bit with the face stabbing. I hate the whole film because of that scene. I just can't watch it.

It's DH's favourite film.

I dislike horror as a genre too, so have missed a lot of films that would have upset me just on general principle.

Mrs Doubtfire. Only film to truly freak me out. Shows how sneaky and underhand people can be, even towards people they claim to love. Excellent portrayal of manipulative behaviour.

Horror films in general, they freak me out and I just can't cope with being scared. I've seen a few over the years and my DH has had to talk me into watching them.
I make him go with his best mate to watch them now.
I much prefer a proper girly movie or a comedy that makes me laugh out loud

I'm not a watcher of horror or anything excessively violent, certainly have no desire to watch Saw or anything of that ilk, but the films that I've no desire to watch ever again and really wish I hadn't seen are Reservoir Dogs, Scarface and Salem's Lot.

Strangely, even though I found the original Wicker Man chilling I would watch it again.

Picnic at Hanging Rock. Just eerie and creepy and won't get of your head.

The Servant (dirk Bogarde, james fox) - so disturbing.

And possibly Play Misty for Me - brilliant but again so disturbing, don't think I could sit through it again knowing how it lulls you in.

American history x the pavement/jaw scene.

Eye for an eye the assault.

Very disturbing but I still think American history x is an important film.

Clockwork Orange. I saw it as a teenager, when it first came out, and the thought of it still upsets me. At the time, I had no idea such awful things existed. (too sheltered) I was horrified when it started to be shown again. I don't watch anything 18 now at all.

Jude the obscure, when they enter the bedroom to find their boys :( so so shocking

ones I can think of that have really stuck with me:

The prestige. Although not scary or anything the whole concept of it really disturbs me. Especially the bit where he kept drowning himself night after night.

The impossible. I just found it so distressing I cried for days after (on and off obvs!)

The hills have eyes. Couldn't get past the rape scene, had to switch off.

And one that the name escapes me, but it's set in the London Underground and there's a bit where a woman is strapped into a gynaecologist type chair with legs in stirrups. I won't go on as its freaking me out thinking about it.

I wish I could unsee Oldboy (incest horror, anyone?) and Requiem for a Dream. I have a very strong stomach when it comes to gore or violence but these two films were so psychologically f-ed up they traumatised me for life!

One film that really went through me was wrong turn 6. It was disgusting and weird sexual scenes which really made my skin crawl. I've only ever watched wrong turn 1 which wasn't as bad. But overall that's one film that's stuck in my head as being so wrong the producer must be a very twisted strange man/woman!!!!!!

American History X for me, same scene as Bacon. It makes me feel sick just typing this.

The Piano Teacher, horribly depressing with graphic scenes of self harm.
