Movies that don't live up to the book

Everyone thinks I'm weird, I don't do movies. The books are so much better...

I'm trying to watch Gone Girl now but god it's shit, the book wasn't great and now I'm bored.

The Seeker adapted from The Dark is Rising. Fantastic book, totally meh film with all the subtlety stripped away.

Paddington.

Not enough marmelade

Any thoughts on 'The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas'?

We watched it last night. I haven't read the book but a colleague had told me about it and I expected the film to be quite different - not least the ending which was like being hit by a truck as I thought it was completely different (obviously misremembered the convo).

The film of Gone Girl was much better than the book. Book was shoddily written and the twists were too obvious. Film had lots of shocks and they handled flashbacks etc much better.

Agree about 'Never Let Me Go'. Really good film of a book, perfect atmos, even though it had Keira thingy in it.

if I want to enjoy the film of a book I need to see the film first.

Personally I thought the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas wasnt bad, the Harry Potter films are Ok, the Hunger Games seemed to be written to be filmed.

The worst film of the book ever is I Robot - just as well Asimov was dead when it came out.

I am the other way to some with The Children of Men. I adore the film and dislike the book. Whoever wrote the film improved it massively.

Please don't let Stephen King near a TV/film adaptation. I am still in shock from what he did to 'Under The Dome' turning the creepy, necrophiliac bad guy into a clean cut, handsome hero - presumably because in the book the actual main protagonists were middle aged and we can't allow that onscreen...

Apparently he loathes the movie 'The Shining' - presumably because someone actually good made it.

Also, and this one breaks my heart as I luffs the book, and I luffs the director/producer/co-writer - 'The Hobbit'. Peter Jackson - what were you thinking? Beautifully casted, and acted but really one long film would have done it.
