I bet he did not cut such a ridiculous figure as one of my French teachers...thank goodness we had quite a big ML department and the rest were either native speakers or at least not dorky...

ok....picture a weedy man (slightly like mr burns on the simpsons) with wire wool for hair in a bob/comb over style and he always kept his head cocked to one side so that his comb over did not fall out of place....

shall i go on?

anyway

no wonder people give up French as soon as they can.
Ours wore courtelle tweed suits even though she must have only been in her 30s and other teachers her age were all Biba'd out; she went on camper van holidays with her aged parents and made the mistake of telling teenage girls about this; she was also proud of the fact that apart from three years at college she had been at our school for her entire life post 11; but, critically, her accent was atrocious - twee English lower middle class with refained suburban vowels. Sounds like the two of them should have been sent on a blind date popsy.

PMSL at your french teachers!!!
My favourite english teacher (all of them were french btw) was when I was 15, he looked sooo british to us, very pink complexion, middle aged, charming and reserved, a lovely man (but most teenagers found him ridiculous, I thought he was lovely - not in that way though.... )

As for Francois Truffaut, he was a god!!! I think I love all his films, Les 400 coups is beautiful and agree with the last frame being heartbraking. Le Dernier Metro is great too.I love all the JP Leaud ones (strange strange man...)
My favourite though is Vivement Dimanche! with Fanny Ardant (dh always laughs at her name, so childish ), don't know the english title I'm afraid
