Graham Greene has a cameo role as the British insurance adjuster who visits the set near the end and delivers the final blow to poor old Je Vous Presente Pamela, beety! He'd always wanted to be in films apparently and happened to be on the lot they day they were shooting this scene. Truffaut gave him the role.
I just wondered if he was the stumbling block because what with Mrs Greene and his mistress I think executing his estate was a bit fraught!
Cod, I think you must have seen Jeanne Moreau. A French film star who really has NOT done botox or lipo or anything else, too busy rescuing feral cats in Marseille or something.
Popsy ! I am so sad for you. The man was a genius with a fascinating life and left us a huge collection of superb films. And he kept Jean-Pierre Leaud off the streets...
Merci a toi gggl!

Marina · 29/01/2006 19:57

Agree beety. At least for me it was Dickens rather than the Colossus of French Cinema

Beetroot · 29/01/2006 19:58

OH my goodness Marina I forgot GG was in the film. Have not seen it for years.

He's not a natural is he though beety

Poshpaws · 29/01/2006 20:01

I studied Truffaut for A level French too and like Marina, I fell in love with his films (my fave being The 400 Blows.

Nice to know some other people have heard of him as all my friends look at me blankly when I mention his work

Marina · 29/01/2006 20:04

The end freeze-frame in the 400 Blows = possibly the saddest, most disturbing shot ever in cinema poshpaws. That film...

codnotmud · 29/01/2006 20:09

yes moreau
we did jules et jeeem at a level

popsycalindisguise · 29/01/2006 20:40

i have a mission then to watch a truffaut film sans monsieur marron!!!

recommend s'il vous plait!

Marina · 30/01/2006 09:57

You have to start with The 400 Blows and the adorable follow-up Baisers Voles. Domicile Conjugale is a bit bleaker but still has lots of silly moments.
Day for Night, as recommended by beety and us all, is also a lovely, silly film.
I also like The Bride Wore Black and The Last Metro (one of his later films), but these are more of an acquired taste.
But then, I watched Close Encounters just because it had Francois in it
Popsy please tell me M Marron is a nickname! and not for real

popsycalindisguise · 30/01/2006 11:39

Oh yes. That is his real name

If I gave you a description of him, you would PYSL

I am going to make a point of hunting out a truffaut film
