have promised to take dd to cinema for the first time as a reward for going to bed so well all week. the only PG on is Narnia - would she be OK or is it way too scary?

btw, her fave film is Wizard Of Oz and she doesn't get scared of the witch in that.

No. Way too scary IMO.

collision · 20/01/2006 20:58

Loads have said it is too scary and that their older kids were scared too.

Am cross that there are no U films on ATM as ds would like to go and see something too.

roisin · 20/01/2006 20:59

this thread should put you off

dinny · 20/01/2006 20:59

oh, piss, had feeling that would be the case.

My 3.5 year old loves it.

He watches it every day - we have the dvd already

He adores Aslan, and knows nearly all the words!

roisin · 20/01/2006 21:06

Tamba, an illegal pirate copy you mean?

MistyEyed · 20/01/2006 21:07

3yr old dd loved it. Actually the scary bits went straight over her head so she had a great time. It was my 5 yr old ds who found the aslan bit scarey.

MrsSpoon · 20/01/2006 21:23

I'm glad to hear some 3 year olds were OK with it. After saying that I wouldn't take DS1 until he had read the book I've had a burning desire to see the film (too many people telling me how good it is). I was going to take DS1 on his own but DH wants to go too which means taking DS2, aged 3 1/2. Think we are going tomorrow, have already told both DSs so no getting out of it now.

ladymuck · 20/01/2006 21:26

Don't know if Tamba's lo watched on the big screen or not. Just remember that the big screen is very big . It is also 2.5 hours long - I know that ds1 wouldn't have managed it at that age. At 4.5 he's seen the film and enjoyed it, though did grab dh at a couple of scarey bits. But he does know the story fairly well - we have the audio Cd in the car.

soapbox · 20/01/2006 21:27

I definitely would not let a 3 yo watch this. It is way too violent IMO!

TinyGang · 20/01/2006 21:48

It's a bit involved for that age group. I took dd (7) and she loved it, but not ds and dd2(aged4); it would definately not have been right for them.

nooka · 20/01/2006 21:57

We took ds (6) and dd (5) I think it was borderline as to whether dd really enjoyed it, and hadn't originally intended to take her. She was scared, but no nightmares, thank goodness! I wouldn't take a 3 yr old to the cinema full stop, for my two a full film was just too long to sit still, and the big screen a bit overwhelming. But obviously that depends hugely on the child.

MrsSpoon · 20/01/2006 21:58

Arrrgh, I am usually very against violent, wonder if I could palm them off with Lassie instead, wish they could go and watch Lassie and DH and I could see Narnia, as it sounds like one of those films that has to been seen on the 'big screen'.

florenceuk · 20/01/2006 22:53

DS(4) loved this even though there were scary bits - sat through even though he'd walked out of Curse of the Wererabbit, wants to go again! I think it depends on how much they like the story - DS loves castles, magic, swords, and movies with real children in them.

lucy5 · 20/01/2006 22:59

I havent seen it yet but if it the first visit to the cinema it could her off if she is frightened.

dinny · 21/01/2006 14:19

dd also LOVES Harry Potter filmes - especially Azkaban, which I find scary (the dementors).

but think will wait till another PG/U is out for her first cinema visit! thanks for all your opinions/exp

It's very full on on the big screen, and very loud. DP took my un-nervous DS, 4.5 against my better judgement, and he did cower under DP's coat for the battles, which DP said were v violent.

Blandmum · 21/01/2006 15:02

I would say that in the cinema this would b very 'full on'. I also think that the plot would be a bit much for a 3.5 year old. My nearly 6 year old was OK in it, but it was on the line for ds, and he is quite a tough cookie when it comes to films.

Aloha · 21/01/2006 15:05

I think it's far too long, too complex and probably too scary too. It's quite an adult film.

MrsSpoon · 22/01/2006 17:20

We took DS1 and 2 yesterday, I sat rather nervously expecting to have to take DS2 out. The biggest issue we faced with DS2 was that he got quite bored and fidgety, although not overly so, he likes the whole cinema experience so that kept him going, we just got the popcorn out every time he got really bored. Think he was too young to pick up much on what was going on and not old enough to be overly scared of it. Probably shouldn't have taken him but it has not been too much of a disaster.

ernest · 23/01/2006 15:18

I was worried about the battle scenes after reading stuff on here but my 4 yr old ds shrieked with laughter.

Marina · 23/01/2006 15:20

Too long and too scary for your average 3.5 y/o I think
Ds was getting a bit fidgety towards the end and he is a mad 6 y/o Narniaphile

Mum2Ela · 23/01/2006 15:23

DD (not yet 3.5) really enjoyed it. It didn't scare her at all, but then, all children are different. She likes to talk about the lion and the beavers (?) (I didn't see it and its been years since I read the novels) even now.

MrsSpoon · 23/01/2006 20:54

ernest, wonder if you were in front of us at the cinema? There was a couple with a little boy, looked about 4, (blonde hair, wore glasses) who killed himself laughing during the trailers (real infectious laugh he had), didn't hear him laughing during the battle scenes but he very well could have been.
