I was sure Toy Story 3 was going to be a let down.

How wrong was I??

It was fan-bloody-tastic.

I've been saying for months that I was scared it was going to be crap, TS1 & 2 are my favourite kids films and I just couldn't see Disney getting it so right 3 times!

I cried and laughed so much.

Yes, I know I am sad, but I loved it!

Just saw it today...it was great wasn't it!

I must admit to letting out a teeny weeny squeal of delight when I saw the Totoro teddy

That monkey though....brrrr! [shudders]

clayre · 26/07/2010 08:43

we are going to see it this afternoon, the dc are very excited but i am worried its going to be a let down1

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 26/07/2010 08:46

Not a let-down at all. If I was going to be pushed I'd say that TS2 still has the edge, but there again, TS2 is in my top 3 films of all time.

TS3 was brilliant - quite scary/harrowing though in places. Dd2 (4) screamed her head off at one point near the end and dh and I both cried a few times.

Would love to see it again without the kids now!

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 26/07/2010 08:47

and God yes, that monkey ...

Ken was a stroke of genius though.

and I loved Bonnie. Dd2 plays just like that!

nikki1978 · 26/07/2010 09:12

I loved it! The kids loved it, DH loved it! Great film, did find myself crying a couple of times (held back but could have been a sobbing mess I think ). Brilliant end to the trilogy.

5inthebed · 26/07/2010 09:18

I cried for the last 15 minutes. It was a fantastic film, DS1+2 loved it. The new characters were great as well.

The monkey was creepy as was big baby when it was sittin on the swing.

Poledra · 26/07/2010 09:25

Soooo, would you take a 6.5 yo and a 4.5 yo to see it? DD1 loves films and has been able to sit through a film since she was about 2.5. She's seen a couple of the Shreks at the cinema and loved it. She likes the other 2 TS films. DD2 has only been to see the latest Shrek at the cinema. She sometimes loses interest in a film about two-thirds of the way through. Will they be too scared?

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 26/07/2010 09:29

Loved it! Took Ds1 (9) and Ds2(7) on friday, and we all really enjoyed it. I thought it wasa really lovely eniding to the story, and so I'm hoping they don't make any more.

We took our ds (3.11) on Saturday to the IMAX. It was his first cinema experience he (and I) loved it so much that when he asked to go again on Sunday I took him

He is a bit of a scaredy cat and didn't like the monkey, but it was nothing hand over his ears for a minute didn't fix. Superb ending to the trilogy

IWillNotNeverEatATomato · 26/07/2010 09:37

Took my DS (3.5) last week when we were on hols in Scotland and it hadn't stopped raining

he LOVED it, and sat transfixed throughout
(actually we all did)

he can get quite scared by films but nothing in this bothered him

as a bonus he also thinks he saw Shrek as there was a trailer for it

profscooter · 26/07/2010 10:06

Saw it on Friday. Very good film, small child behind us let out a long terrified scream near the end which kind of added to the atmosphere. Saw it in 3D, and even though I can't see the 3D, the specs were very useful (being a bloke) for hiding any possible moments of "welling up" in the sad bits and retaining an apparent outer steely resolve to get through to the end without blubbing

GetOrfMoiLand · 26/07/2010 10:11

DD (14) saw it yesterday and came home with reddened eyes - apparently she (and her friends) sobbed like babies the whole last half hour or so.

I can't wait to go and see it.

anonymousbird · 26/07/2010 10:13

It is VERY good indeed. Do not be concerned about being a let down. Kids loved it, I loved it. And we were all absolutely on the verge of sobs

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 26/07/2010 10:17

I found the bit where they all held hands at the point nearish to the end an absolute killer.

Ha, ha, am welling up just reading these messages, how sad's that? It as BRILLIANT. Took dd (11) and ds1 (21) and we ALL cried! Agree with profscooter that the glasses were useful for hiding the tears and also with oneofsuesylvesterscheerios that the bit where they all held hands was an absolute killer.

I want to go and see it again now.

profscooter · 26/07/2010 11:45

We probably only see 2 or 3 films a year at the cinema, the last one I can remember seeing that challenged the tear ducts the same way was Forrest Gump. I still struggle with bits of that when it comes on TV. Tried to tell myself during last 30 mins or so that Toy Story 3 was just a cartoon but it didn't help much.

DuffyMoon · 26/07/2010 11:56

Really want to see this but am scared i will be sobbing and the children will disown me ...... I cried during TS2 , that bit with Jessie and her owner growing up (gulp) and during Nemo when his siblings/eggs and Mother were eaten (waaaaaaah) - will i cope

BelligerentGhoul · 26/07/2010 11:58

We are taking dd2 this afternoon, as dd1 is away. She is 13 and we will probably all embarass ourselves. I bawled at Lilo and Snitch years ago and made an idiot of myself in the 5th Harry Potter by sobbing from start to finish - gawd knows what I'll be like in the final one!

queenofthecapitalwasteland · 26/07/2010 17:57

I saw it yesterday and I'm so glad for the 3D specs as I was blubbing like a baby near the end. I went with DN (4) who wasn't keen as it was too sad, but she also can't watch Wall.E as it was too sad for him to be on a planet by himself (tried to explain if you keep watching it gets better but she didn't believe me)

queenofthecapitalwasteland · 26/07/2010 17:59

Also found the big baby slightly creepy, I had a doll just like that- where is it now?

smugmumofboys · 26/07/2010 18:13

Dses loved it. I cried lots. Had I been at home, I would have been audibly sobbing. DSes did big faces at me.

IMoveTheStars · 26/07/2010 18:15

Totoro teddy??!?!!?!

right, that's decided then, I'll have to see it

nannynick · 26/07/2010 18:31

It's a sad film but it was great.

Big Baby is a bit creepy. Big Baby does not look quite so scary on the Disney website.

I wonder if that Totoro teddy is available to buy? I spotted it in the movie as well - were the animators paying homage to the animators at Studio Ghibli. (For anyone who has no idea what Totoro is, click here for Wikipedia entry.)
