Ive paid for tickets to see these arseholes [multiple groups of them] and not one single band t shirt comes in anything other than a male shape. Which is not comfortable or flattering. Twats.

One of the bands that has done better has a ‘print on demand’ merch option so they can offer m/f shapes with the same cost. Not that the links work at the moment. But they’re trying.

That’s a good idea 👍

It’s a cost thing, nothing that deep. If they stock lots of variations the likelihood is they’ll be left with more at the end of a tour. That eats into the profit, and merch is one of the only ways the smaller bands make money in a tour. Having one option allows for less wastage.

If it's just a cost thing, then I guess they'll have no problem selling only women's fit t-shirts in various sizes that men can wear as they're "unisex".

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 13/05/2026 06:52

I personally don’t like to wear women’s fit t shirts so would usually buy the men’s one. I think there are probably more women who feel like this than men who would prefer to wear women’s fit? So for cost reasons @MirrorVent it still makes sense to have one unisex which is styled to be the most likely one to sell?

JumpingPumpkin · 13/05/2026 07:01

Is the problem at least partly that there isn't a single "women's fit"? I am small and generally don't like overly shaped t-shirts, chances are I'd pick just a small unisex one anyway. Long time since I bought a band tee though.

Iheartmysmart · 13/05/2026 07:18

The standard ‘men’s’ t-shirt shape looks shit on me because I’m only 5ft tall and have massive 34HH boobs. If it fits on the chest, it’ll be far too large on the shoulders, the neckline far too high and the length will swamp me.

I’ve been to two gigs where they’ve had scoop neck t-shirts in a women’s fit and bought one at each. Suppose I could alter a man’s fit one but gig merchandise is expensive so why should I. I don’t expect to have to do that with my normal clothing, if it doesn’t fit then I don’t buy it.

Dozer · 13/05/2026 07:23

‘women’s fit’ usually means tight, lower neckline and so on, which is part of the whole thing. But that’s reality, what most of us have been socialised to want and want. Me included. I dislike how I look in larger men’s t shirts and the small ones don’t fit me.

If there isn’t much demand they won’t bother, agree that it sends a negative message to women fans. As you have said to them, they won’t be getting your money!

sunnydisaster · 13/05/2026 07:24

Yes x 100! Years ago I had a U2 t-shirt that was a female shape and it was great.
Last year I bought a Coldplay one as the concert was amazing but the fit of the t shirt is so bad it’s almost unwearable.i should’ve gone for a medium so it just hung like a sack rather than getting it to fit.
I hate the tight neck the most so I might try and get the neck seam off.

PermanentTemporary · 13/05/2026 07:26

Turin Brakes have got the print on demand option. But as I said the links weren’t working for me last time I looked.

Some bands sell women's fit, which tend to have shorter sleeves.
Some bands don't.
I personally don't buy the women's fit ones as I find them too tight under the armpits.
Also, I don't think the default t shirt shape is "male", I just think it's "t shirt".

I'm not socialised to not want to be strangled by a t-shirt neck thanks.

And the idea that wanting to have a t-shirt that fits and sleeves that don't come to my elbows is a common preference?

That is rubbish "cool girl" talk and belongs in the bin.

Dozer · 14/05/2026 13:13

First time I’ve been accused of cool girl posts on MN 😆

There are comfortable fits for women’s bodies and stereotypical cuts, eg cropped, low cut, tight.

When a girls/women’s merch option is provided it is usually the latter. Unfortunately.

VikingLady · 14/05/2026 13:19

I tend to assume it means they don’t like women and don’t want us as fans, tbh. It makes me like them just a little less every time I notice it.

Bjorkdidit · 14/05/2026 13:38

Same for PPE, even when there's a reasonable demand from women.

Women aren't small men. Body proportions are completely different. Most women have shorter bodies and longer legs as well as different shape and narrower shoulders. So the fit is bad everywhere and tops are too long

Men wouldn't be expected to wear woman shape clothes so why are women expected to wear man shape clothes?

AllTheGigs · 14/05/2026 19:53

My army kit didn't fit either because everything is for men.
Every fucking thing is for men and it can get in the sea. There is no reason they couldn't do tour t-shirts based on demand at gigs (as described above - available to order)

All i hear is: yeah, we don't want you women fans.

Steelworks · 14/05/2026 20:00

I totally agree. Mens T-shirts just don’t fit me. There’s as many, if not more, women who go to gigs as men.

Also, why are the majority black?

ODFOx · 14/05/2026 21:09

I’m an old fart and spent my band T shirt years wearing outsize over skinny jeans or a floaty skirt with a low slung studded belt. Perhaps the merch pirates are still expecting that vibe for Rock band fans?

MaryBeardsShoes · 14/05/2026 21:12

Helliephant · 12/05/2026 23:18

"Mens" tshirts are comfier. Do you really need a band tee to feel "fitted"

No they aren’t.

MaryBeardsShoes · 14/05/2026 21:15

This drives me crazy OP! You are not alone!

HobnobsChoice · 14/05/2026 21:23

I also hate men's fit/unisex t shirts. The neckline is too close and tight and then if it fits my boobs then I'm swamped in fabric. If it's not swamping me in fabric then it is too tight across the chest. Not all women's t shirts are cropped or baby doll fit or tight. They're just a t shirt that fits women's shoulders and neck and chests

TitsInAbsentia · 14/05/2026 21:25

I'm teaching myself (starting with the old tshirts!) how to adjust the neckline and the sleeves but can't really do much about the straight up and down body...I also find a lot of the tshirts are so long - DH and I have assumed this is to compensate for the average beer belly and for extra arse crack coverage!

BestIsWest · 14/05/2026 21:34

I am right here with you. I’m a pear shape. Men’s t shirts are always too tight round my hips and swamp my shoulders and are too big around the neck. Definitely not comfy.

It used to drive me mad when I worked in IT and we were given free T-shirts and sweatshirts by suppliers, always ‘unisex’.

And the polo shirt and sweatshirt I have to wear for my volunteer role, again cut to fit men and I find them so uncomfortable.

PermanentTemporary · 14/05/2026 23:06

Well, Public Service Broadcasting have explained that they have lost money providing a women’s fit in the past.

Gearing up to ask them to consider a ‘print on demand’ option. I would just really like a Race for Space T-shirt I like wearing.

I have changed the neckline on a few t-shirts, and shortened more. (For the hem i use a twin needle purely for the look of it. Eventually u may get a voverstitch machine to do it "properly)

For side seams - measure where your waist would be and sew a curved line from armpit to hem (like a bracket where the ends stert/finish at armpit/hem)

Some machines have stretch stitch, or use a shallow zigzag. Or just use a regular stitch - that sesm doesn't really have to stretch.

FabiaQuintilla · 15/05/2026 07:51

A man’s t-shirt is not just ‘a t-shirt’ as some posters are saying. A men’s t-shirt follows the body and fits roughly the same everywhere. So do women’s t-shirts. They don’t need to be tight but they do need to follow roughly the contours the body. I’m not being vain not wanting to wear something that is tight in places and baggy in others - that’s not what men’s clothing is like for men.

Reminds me of some ‘unisex’ sweatshirts I saw a few years ago. Couldn’t get the ones in my usual size over my chest.

I think it is "just a t shirt".
The default unisex t shirt shape doesn't fit anyone especially well, even men.
Men's bodies vary too - some have bellies, some muscles, some skinny.
