Saw this article by Jameela Jamil and thought "oh my god, how have I not made this connection myself...?"

Wondering if this could be posted in the style and beauty topic?

Ah shit! We let pedophiles decide our beauty standards.

Post the release of the harrowing Epstein files, and the powerful men in media and fashion, considered possible accomplices, it feels fair to say this with more gusto!

I think it's more that fashion has a high proportion of gay men in the industry and their ideal body shape is that of a slim man.

if you look at glamour models they have an entirely different body shape

What makes you say that?

The fact that she thinks men in frocks and make up are women for starters.

LightningMode · 18/02/2026 17:22

Sorry, what does this mean?

Though it’s good to see it being revived by younger women in the midst of the terribly modern Pomo feminism of North America and Sussex/London today.

JJ is a big believer in Butlerian post-modern philosophy that thinks chromosomal sex is a purely social construct. This theory is especially popular in the universities of New England, California and the London-Sussex area.

Other posters have alluded to this.

Got you! Thanks. So, as I said, Jameela thinks that men can be women. And these men should be celebrated as stunning and brave.

But now her body positive grift is ending, she's trying to find a new one. BY SHOUTING A LOT!! BECAUSE THAT MAKES HER RIGHT!!!

AND SAYING FUCK!!

So edgy 🙄

She's not wrong in what she's saying here though. Seems a very severe reaction to someone you don't agree with on one issue.

Jamil will jump on any bandwagon. Now she's decided that "paedophile" body norms are it.

Why didn't she notice that before? While she was on the "body positivity" grift, before it ended?

ETA: And, of course, how can you stand up for women when you think that is a class that includes men?

Just noting that she’s not saying anything new. And that she’s a bit of a hypocrite really.

Why do some men shave their faces? Is that a paedophile thing?

Men's faces are not girl's vaginas.

SigourneyHoward · 18/02/2026 21:42

Jameela and the bees.... Jameela and vast cohorts of her school on puberty blockers..
She's never seen a bandwagon she doesn't want to jump on.

Vacuous and a charlatan

There is that element of high fashion for sure.

But it is also very true that a lot of the beauty trends aimed at girls in the noughties were pushed by the likes of Victoria's Secret** and similar. It wasn't just Victoria's Secret but they were hugely influential (especially in America) and aspirational and their shows were promoted as big events, being an "angel" was the highest honour. All completely confected. All had a very noticeable impact on young women's body image "selling skin and bones with big boobs". And Lex Werner was dodgy as fuck. As we're many of the big modelling agency's that were pushing a certain image in the 90s/2000s. Jean Luc Brunel was not a gay man. He was a piece of work. And they do all seem to have been connected to each other.

So much as Jamil is indeed often batshit (the beeeeees) she sort of does have a bit of a point here.

**And for men Abercrombie and Fitch. I thought their whole thing was creepy at the time and it turns out the men running it were raping the young male models. It was 100% built in their own fantasies and tastes even while there was a time it pretended to be sort of "for the women".

Someone said a few years ago that the Muppets predicted what all teenage girls would end up looking like.

Isn't the owner of Victoria's Secret mentioned in the Epstein files?

I think that looks might be dying out a bit in teenage girls, seems to be the 25-35 ish age bracket

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 21/02/2026 09:47

As a pp said, this was covered extensively by second wave feminism. I learned about it in sixth form in the early 90s. Many things have changed since then, but on appearance, it's got worse. It's sickening that young women are under even more pressure to "perform femininity". And increasingly stay young looking.

I'm no longer optimistic. Too many forces perpetuate this. I don't know what can be done.

I think he employed Epstein for years and gave Epstein power of attorney over the business and also Epstein lived in his house.
And he has direct allegations of rape against him.

So yes, mentioned....

@persephonia That's a hell of a lot of "mentions". Blimey

All of this was known about before the Epstein files and it's sort of terrifying that absolutely nothing was done. And furthermore that everyone basically accepted a major paedophile had links to an underwear company whose target market was teenage girls and had a whole narrative about who "Victoria" was and a "type" of girl they wanted working in their stores.

The main thing to come out of the Epstein files is that Werner was named as a potential co-conspirator by the FBI in its initial investigation into Epstein but this was redacted in the initial files until a congressman granted access to the unredacted files named him. No-one should be surprised given everything that was already known that he was a suspected co-conspirator. What is "surprising" is the FBIs (under Kash Patel) claim that noone else was suspected of committing crimes/that Werner didn't have a case to answer.

People talk about the risk of assassination/dark arts etc and I'm sure that's a genuine fear for the victims. But the reason the media were scared to talk about people like Werner was basically just fear of getting sued. Because if you are rich you can do that. And he still isn't likely to face any consequences.

But sure, the aesthetics pushed at teenage girls and young women by companies like Victoria's Secret have absolutely nothing to do with the tastes of gross men. Women decide female beauty standards blah blah.

GrooveArmada · 22/02/2026 00:23

What bandwagon did she jump on now to stay relevant...? Define a woman, JJ.

GoodnightEvangeline · 22/02/2026 00:25

I think she’s misunderstood how the Lolita term came about but that’s a small note.

Reading your post I was about to mention Abercrombie and Fitch, but I see you’ve done so already. There’s a good podcast on this, although it’s pretty upsetting.

I read the BBC report and that was enough. It's really upsetting. Obviously that it happened at all. But it's also disturbing because I can remember AandF were pushed as being pushed as something for the female gaze (as opposed to scantily clad women for the male gaze). I was young when the company was at its height and they had all these buff male models at the store and it always felt really creepy to me and it didn't really appeal to my (also straight young female) friends either. And of course it wasn't about the female gaze at all. It was about male predators gaze dressed up as really fake feminism. And again, the man who owned the parent company was Lex Werner. It's exploitation all the way down.

@persephonia A sincere thanks for that info, I didn't know any of it. Until recently I only knew the more general info and about Maxwell and the royal compulsive liar.
As you say it's astounding that so much of what you've said was in the public domain, but not that it was ignored. I am surprised that some US newspapers didn't push and run articles about Werner though. The NY Times ran the piece about Weinstein which was risky.
I've never been convinced that the ideas of what females are supposed to look like have been initiated by us, of course they havent. I had a discussion with my other half recently about high school girls skirt lengths. Its them who choose the length of the skirt, if they didn't want it that short they wouldn't do it. 🙄

Chersfrozenface · 18/02/2026 15:51

Two points.

A. Fashion, specifically, has favoured an androgynous shape for women since the 1920s. Currently models have to be UK size 6 to 8 and 5ft 8 to 5ft 11, which is very thin.

B. If general beauty standards are based on a childlike appearance, how do you account for enhanced boobs and bums?

It's called cherry picking.

NumbersGuy · 22/02/2026 08:11

Love that all of the qualified and certified transvestigators found all of the references for the words "gay," "trans," and "drag queens" in her article - LOL!!! If you choose not to follow the trend, then don't and it will change. The numbers don't lie - UK women spend an average of £3,059.91 annually on beauty treatments, with Gen Z and Millennials averaging £554 per month on beauty and wellness. So take some accountability instead of blaming it on a few men who decided what they thought the facade of what is beauty. It's called a boycott.
