There are no words for this woman's astounding bravery and courage. Watching Sky news this morning with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes, because she's finally getting justice.

Her dignity is astounding. She has really reclaimed herself, and in such a powerful way. May the men involved rot.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 19/12/2024 09:07

Seeing the verdicts all come in, I'm in tears.

She is truly amazing, I can't even comprehend how life shattering this was, but she still stands strong

I hope these guilty verdicts come with an appropriate sentence.

GrouchyKiwi · 19/12/2024 09:11

So many names. So many awful men. Such a brave woman.

I hope this brings her some healing.

KayVess · 19/12/2024 09:13

All these guilty verdicts coming in. It’s astounding the grace and determination that Gisèle has found in the face of such abhorrent crimes.

Does anyone know the French sentencing guidance for aggravated rape? If someone has committed the offence multiple times against her (and others in some cases) does French law allow for consecutive running of sentences or will they be concurrent?

chickensandbees · 19/12/2024 09:14

Even with all the evidence I was still worried they wouldn't be found guilty (my lack of faith in the justice system for rape victims). This is such a relief!!

Giselle is a heroine. I hope she finds a peaceful life after this.

Sky news was saying 20 years, they had a French lady on trying to explain but they cut her off

20 years for Dominique Pelicot doesn't seem nearly long enough.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 19/12/2024 09:20

I didn't realise he was also on trial for making and distributing sexual images of his adult daughter and his sons' wives.

Igotjelly · 19/12/2024 09:24

That woman is an absolute inspiration, her courage and dignity is outstanding. Equally though the crimes are thus that she has every right to absolutely fall apart, rape survivors shouldn’t have to be stoic.

I hope she has every support available to her and goes on to live a happy and fulfilled life ❤️

PullTheBricksDown · 19/12/2024 09:24

Awesomely strong woman. She has done a brave and admirable thing in going though this trial.

All these men are despicable. I hope they get treated in the way they deserve.

It really isn't.

His daughter suspects that she may have been drugged because the pictures of her are in underwear that she doesn't recognise.

A horrible, horrible man and he should have been locked away for as long as possible.

OP posts:
chickensandbees · 19/12/2024 09:27

Does 20 years mean only 10 years in prison like the UK?

ToBeOrNotToBee · 19/12/2024 09:27

MrTiddlesTheCat · 19/12/2024 09:20

That's someone else. Her ex husband is Dominique

TickingAlongNicely · 19/12/2024 09:27

Given he is in his 70s, hopefully 20 years will mean he's never free.

The first of the other "men" was only 12 years

losingweightandgainingconfidence · 19/12/2024 09:29

@ToBeOrNotToBee no it's not.

John Pierre was found guilty of copying Dominique and doing the same to his wife.

Dominique was also found guilty of making images of 2 other women, his son's wives. There are also pictures of his daughter in underwear she doesn't recognise.

Dominique has also admitted being involved in an attempted rape in 1991, and is being investigated for a rape and murder in the 1990s in Paris, I believe.

Heart is breaking 💔 for her

NAM, but 72 of them all in the same village who took part, shame some got away.

It does make you realise how many disgusting men there are out there 😭 why can women just not be safe!

TickingAlongNicely · 19/12/2024 09:34

Its sickening that there are at least 20 guilty men walking around free because they weren't identified.

Reading the reports of this trial, I am so over the 'Not all men'. The huge proportion of men who clearly would rape if they thought they could get away with it just defies belief.

Bloody well done Gisele Pelicot.

Yep, NAM can do one today.

Gisele, your courage is extraordinary.

Igotjelly · 19/12/2024 09:49

Might not be all men but it’s ALWAYS men!

HelloMyNameIsElderSmurf · 19/12/2024 09:52

These are fairly low sentences though, aren't they?

PepeParapluie · 19/12/2024 09:54

I am also so emotional seeing them all found guilty. I know it seems baffling to us because of our version of rape laws, but as the French version doesn’t have a concept of consent it did sound like there might be an uphill battle to secure guilty verdicts.

I agree Dominique’s sentence seems incredibly short but the fact they’re all guilty and all getting prison sentences is a relief to me.

I am absolutely in awe of Gisele’s courage. I was absolutely sobbing when I read that she kept using her married name for the trial and in the media so her grandchildren would be proud to be a Pelicot because of her instead of ashamed because of him. She’s an incredible woman.
