This is why people who bleat about men being killed more often and think it's a gotcha should just pipe down.
Men are not being killed simply because they are men. Yes, it does make an difference if somebody is killed because he got in a bar fight, had sex with somebody else's wife (or disrespected another man in some other way) was shot in gang warfare or killed in a robbery. Those are the typical reasons men get killed. These are terrible and tragic crimes, but they are not hate crimes. Hate crimes are considered to be more heinous than other crimes. We are right to be especially horrified by murder motivated by hatred based on sex, race, sexual orientation or whatever.
So people need to stop making this false comparison. The average man will never have cause to fear that he will be murdered.

Ottawa police deem death of a woman in south end park a femicide

A Montreal man is charged with first-degree murder in connection to the stabbing death of a woman at a park in Ottawa’s south end on Thursday.

The number of men who have tried to take advantage- pressured and assaulted and on occasion raped- as opposed to those who haven’t. Honestly, it’s not good. Like, really bad, statistically speaking.

What statistics are you referring to out of interest?

If you just want to be able to slag off men as a group and not have anybody question it then why not just say so?

No, I'm not slagging off men - statistically, men are perpetrators of 98% of sexual crime, for example, and women/girls constitute around 85% of their victims.

We'd find similar stats for crimes of violence in terms of perpetrators.

The cost of men's violence is a significant finacial and emotional burden borne by women and, indeed, all citizens. This is why I think we need a "man tax" of around 1 to 2% on all men, to cover the cost of their sex-based violence.

And it is the height of distastefulness for you to come onto a thread about yet another woman killed because of her sex (on average, 2 women every 3 days are murdered in the UK because of their sex) and whine about the man-hating.

We don't hate men enough, in my view, because we can't afford to, and because we all have ,any good decent men in our lives. But the multiple rapists in France show that even apparently "good decent men" can be inhuman monsters.

You can't make contentious comments about a demographic and then throw your dolly out the pram when challenged on them. That's not how internet forums work.

A man tax is about as likely to happen as a Muslim tax to cover the damages caused by terror attacks.

I find it equally offensive when people use these things as an excuse/vehicle to spout hateful views about half the population, the majority of which aren't violent. It's a bit like the people using the recent terror attack as an excuse to burn down mosques. They don't do it because they care about the victim. It's a tool to justify saying things they'd otherwise be challenged on.

You know what the vast majority of terrorists have in common? Hint; it's not race or religion.

So you think that the Office of National Statistics' reporting on the sex of perpetrators of violent & sexual crimes is "contentious" @SidhuVicious ?

You really are in denial - of the facts.

Nicely done.

Can you genuinely not understand that sentence? Is English your first language? Are you neurotypical?

How does it go again, oh yes- not all men are rapists, but all rapists are men.

I believe she said she is NT. As a person who is also NT, I must say that it is insulting to suggest we don't understand simple English. I assume you didn't mean it the way it looks, though.

I think she understands what you meant, anyway. IMO, it's just that she has created a bubble of denial which is impossible to penetrate.

Ah, I missed earlier references to this.
I was really wondering whether my lack of object and several partial sentences were causing the issue, and thus needing clarification, or whether that poster was just being bloody minded or trying to deny what youngsters call ‘my lived experience’, in which case I’d respond differently.

The rest of my family are ND so I often need to check whether it’s a literal comprehension thing or a sense of humour thing, or a talking at cross purposes thing. Otherwise you take ages explaining yourself when that wasn’t even the problem.

Oops. I got mixed up and wrote NT instead of ND and thought you said ND instead of NT. To clarify, Sidhu has said she is ND, not NT. Apologies for the error and I think it's time I had a cup of tea. It's late afternoon here and my mind is getting that afternoon sludginess. ;-)

Sidhu, why are you saying a fatal car crash is much more likely than encountering a violent man? That is not backed up by statistics. I can't speak to evil nurses & babysitters' odds, or heart defects, but the odds of being in a fatal car crash in the UK is less than 1%.
https://www.bumper.co/blog/car-accident-statistics
In contrast, the chance of a UK woman being raped as an adult is 1 in 4, according to the Office for National Statistics. The chance of a man being raped is also scary at 1 in 20, though not near as high. (& the chance of a child of either sex being sexually abused is 1 in 6, according to the NSPCC).
I respect your expertise in your field, and I've learnt valuable things from your posts. But please don't spread misinformation.
