What crimes do women commit that are given offensively mild names?

Men don't "wolf whistle" they sexually harass women and girls
They don't "flash", they indecently expose themselves, usually whilst masturbating starring at their victim.
Do any women's crimes get this treatment? I can't think of any...

You're right. I guess "being on the game" but arguably that is downplaying how awful it is for those women, and isn't comparable to your examples.

I can't think of any for women.

Adding the cutesy 'peeping Tom' to your list.

Men don’t ‘goose’ women, they sexually assault them

PuttingDownRoots · 23/07/2024 13:38

Child pornagraphy... committed by men and women.en.

No... its sexual abuse.

Pipecleanerrevival · 23/07/2024 13:40

Not paying your TV License - Outrageous theft, robbing the state of valuable resources that could otherwise used to stop men sexually assaulting women.

Only kidding.

Yes they do not "peep" they sexually harass and intimidate women by starring at them as part of a sexual perversion.

Very true. Viewing and creatine imagines of child sexual abuse or rape is not pornography. I had to challenge this in the Guardian a few years ago.

I say "prostituted women" which I feel is the best term I am aware of to describe the horror for the women.

The only thing I can think of is 'women of the night', but it doesn't quite work does it? because prostitution is a) legal (in the UK) and b)in most cases the woman is the victim.

AzureAnt · 23/07/2024 14:17

Women don't tend to flash, sexually harass or masturbate in public, most of them anyway AFAIK.
But women do assault other women (and sometimes men) severely neglect children, and do sometimes murder.

ByCupidStunt · 23/07/2024 14:17

I always thought "infanticide" was very coy. Never known a man to be charged with that. It's child murder.

Men do get charged with "child destruction" when pregnant women are assaulted and subsequently lose the child.

Raddled · 23/07/2024 14:31

Infanticide was a specific offence committed by the mother within the first twelve months of the child’s life, due to a disturbance of mind caused by pregnancy and childbirth (in England and Wales).

Raddled · 23/07/2024 14:31

It’s an offence and a partial defence in one.

Usou · 23/07/2024 14:35

Stopping fathers/father's parents from seeing kids/grandkids.

Kidnapping?

What's that got to do with the question?

Ah OK. I just looked up infanticide, yes it's both a crime and a defence. Never knew that.

I think Parental Alienation covers this and is an appropriately harsh term.

It’s a partial defence, it reduces culpability.

I did not know that. In animal behaviour males (lions for example) often kill all the cubs when they take over a new pack - I have heard that referred to as infanticide but I see the nuance of UK law now.

That's it. The one cutesy name I can think of is catfight, used for when women get into physical altercations with other women.

@EllenLRipley Do any women's crimes get this treatment?

Yes. Flashing, for example.

There is also the noted phenomenon when sex between women and children tends to be worded more softly in tabloid newspapers than the same crimes committed by men.

EllenLRipley · 25/07/2024 18:49

@shuggles I have never heard of a woman 'flasher' - indecent exposure yes - usually drunk women having sex in public etc or someone with MH issues not being dresses. Women "flashing" generally means exposing tits to a receptive audience or "mooning" neither of which are crimes.
If you know of women who've exposed their vulva/vagina and masturbated "at" people please add a link as I cannot find anything at all.
