After being called a bigot for my GC view and being told to educate myself by my teenage daughters I did just that
I've been reading quite a lot and some podcasts too but wondered if anyone on here has any other good recommendations please?
So far I've read:
Gay shame by Gareth Richards
Transsexual apostate by Debbie Hayton
Time to think by Hanna Barnes
Trans; when ideology meets reality by Helen Joyce
Irreversible damage by Abigail shrier
The women who wouldn't wheesht by Susan dalgetty and Lucy hunter Blackburn
Feminism for women by Julie Bindel

And two really great podcasts
Desexing society
The witch hunt of jk Rowling

Any other recommendations would be really appreciated, general feminism or gender stuff

Invisible Women, Caaroline Criado Perez (book and also a blog).

The Gendered Brain, Gina Rippon. (There are a couple of pages towards the end where she steps outsole her area of expertise and writes what she's been told - but the actual science part is great.) It's pretty in depth technical stuff, so best read in small chunks.

It dangerous business telling women to educate themselves. So often, they do just that.

Material Girls Kathleen Stock
Susanna Rustin's new history of feminism 'Sexed' has just come out but I've not read it. I'm sure it will be good!

Haha yeah well I did think "fair enough, i will!" Trying my best to get my daughters to do the same but no luck yet 😢 apparently they don't need to!

I saw Gender Critical Feminism by Holly Lawford Smith recommended somewhere, I haven't read it yet though.

The arrogance of teenagers telling grown women to educate themselves and refusing to do so themselves.

Par for the course I guess.

Just tell her she’s an unwitting pawn of the patriarchy swallowing all this shit.

For a view of some (crazy) theoretical background, you might look at Cynical Theories; How Activist Scholarship Made Everything about Race, Gender, and Identity—and Why This Harms Everybody by Helen Pluckrose & James A. Lindsay.

I share the frustrating of brainwashed children telling us to educate ourselves. All the same I’d recommend both the AMAs from young trans-identified people here. Not because they will change your GC views though!

One male and one female, and both conduct themselves exactly as you’d expect for their socialisation. Both provide a great deal of insight in terms of self-centredness and entitlement (in males) and complexity and vulnerability (in females).

Male trans-identified person
Female trans-identified person

I transitioned as a teen and am now an adult - AMA | Mumsnet

Exactly what it sounds like. I feel as though a lot of people on this board are very confident in their idea of trans activism or trans people, and I...

Loved The Cinderella Complex
The Feminine Mystique and most recently Womanhooded by Lambe which really opened my eyes 👀👌
Enjoy xx

Absolutely!
Ironically what started the conversation was a discussion about gender neutral toilets. They understand completely that they have to have them bc otherwise the non binary students feel uncomfortable, they won't use them bc there's boys in there but apparently that's their problem! I mean WTF!
In their defence there's no option to disagree, they'd be ostracised! And the only people who are speaking up are "mums and old people"
Im drip feeding them my point of view

Not a book rec but I'm always mildly amused by the fact that the people most likely to tell me to educate myself are those who also think that biology can be transcended by anime-inspired feelz.

Let her know that women and girls are nearly nine times more likely to be sexually assaulted in mixed changing rooms/areas.

And ask her if that doesn’t matter, why doesn’t it matter.

Great thanks I'll check it out, transsexual apostate gives a very good insight, not exactly a detransitioner but comfortable with the fact they're AGP and facing backlash bc of it.. last chapter by their wife too with her experience

Oh I absolutely do say things like that.. always guaranteed an eye roll but hopefully it's going in! What shocks them most is things like men being allowed in women's sports, rapists being put in women's prisons etc which they told me surely would never be allowed

Thing is we've brought them up to be liberal and accepting of everyone, it doesn't occur to them not to be! People who don't accept other people are bad! Everything is presented to them under that rainbow flag , their friends are choosing any identity to make themselves special and interesting , we're all just being kind to everyone! Most kids have no experience of those who take things mega seriously or the potential consequences that we're all facing .

Yes I must be honest the Hayton makes me deeply uncomfortable but I value the existence of a man who admits the truth we all know but that most of them deny.

DuesToTheDirt · 16/06/2024 16:05

I'd be telling them to educate themselves on Mao's Red Guards, and to see if they thought those young people were on the Right Side of History.
