Apparently the word 'female' is transphobic now

According to an attention-seeking Aussie reality TV 'star'.

Apologies for DM link.

Abbie Chatfield calls very common word a 'slur' and 'transphobic' - so do you agree? | Daily Mail Online

You couldn't make this shit up.

Honestly, let them/they have a period every month.
Or be menopausal, invisible, with a broken vagina…

coffy11 · 14/03/2024 03:11

I agree with her.

WavingCatsandDogs · 14/03/2024 03:12

How in hell have this 'minority' got the whole world scrabbling at their feet to agree to their 'rights' in such a short space of time.

Oh yeah, they're all men.

I see the Pankhurts spinning in the proverbial grave. Dress a man up and let them do the talking, it's all ok womem, we can do equality better than you ever did! FFS.

SuperstarDeejay · 14/03/2024 03:23

coffy11 · 14/03/2024 03:11

I agree with her.

Why do you think that coffy?

Do you genuinely agree with her we shouldn't be allowed to say anything - even when we're not talking to or about transwomen - which could unintentionally draw any nearby transwoman's attention to the fact that they don't have female anatomy? If we go down that path where does it end exactly? Can we mention body parts at all without offending someone? How would we distinguish between the sexes for medical and other important purposes?

And, once again, transmen are overlooked in the debate - Chatfield uses the word 'male' without batting an eyelid. Apparently that's fine.

It's going too far

I filled in a gp appointment request form yesterday. In the male/female/other section headed 'Sex' it had a pop up box that apologised for asking for this information, they need to collect this information to correspond with their medical records and locate the correct patient but are working on removing it as they realise it "it not ideal".

Since when was it not ideal to provide basic information about the sex you were born not ideal??!!

Tallerandtall · 14/03/2024 03:56

@SuperstarDeejay

is it crap. Why do you rise to such BS , and make yourself seem affected

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 14/03/2024 04:10

in canada as well
FIRST READING: Supreme Court decision opts for 'person with a vagina' over 'woman' (msn.com)
if woman are now "person with vagina" can men be "person with penis" can we quantify that? "person with 3 inch penis erect" vs "person with 3 inch penis flaccid"
maybe secretly there is a judicial movement to show how ridiculous this whole situation has become.
would that then mean a trans person would be "person with penis made orifice" and "person with penis made epidermal extension".
medical terminology and biology class takes on a whole new twist.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think by saying 'is it crap' you are saying that you don't think female a is transphobic word. There's another poster on this thread who disagrees with you though, and there are plenty of others agreeing with the podcaster, so let's not pretend I made this issue up out of nothing.

She went on to explain how the word 'female' sounds archaic because it implies that women are like animals who require a male to provide for them.
'They're saying 'females' in a way to remind us that we [women] can't change our natural instincts and we can't change what we actually want - which is a protective big man to take care of us,' she said.

Gosh that's a leap!

itsgettingweird · 14/03/2024 04:59

Interesting how using "females" excludes transgender people.

Why is the word male never equated as an insult.

Plus surely trans woman wouldn't be offended by being called "woman". The whole point was they think they are woman?

It's getting ridiculous now

Superfrog3 · 14/03/2024 04:59

Unfortunately we are now in a time where people say outrageous things for attention whether that be media attention, to go viral or to feel important and relevant.

The person saying this is talking about their opinion on the word female, how it has been used in a misogynistic way ect. That's their opinion and shouldnt be taken as anything more than that.

At lot of this stuff fuels a divide between trans and non trans people and needs to stop. Most trans people want to fit in and are regular members of society, there is a small number who are now creating a circus around it and in my opinion it's making things worse for trans people and creating hatred towards them.

Of course female is not a slur and should never be used as one.

Careforcarers · 14/03/2024 05:00

Publicity is oxygen .

Say something stupid and lots of publicity.

She and her followers sound like muppets.

Totally agree with this. The trouble is that when people in the social media spotlight with lots of young, woke followers voice an opinion, it can quickly become more than just that.

Howbizarre22 · 14/03/2024 05:31

I think it’s an incredibly sexist thing to say against females. Haven’t us women suffered enough sexism ffs!!

ZippyGoose · 14/03/2024 06:23

Daft person says something daft. Move on. People say horrible racist or misogynist things every day and we ignore them because we know sane people don’t agree.

RecycleMePlease · 14/03/2024 06:29

So she is wildly mis-informed about both humans and all the (other) animals then?

Xiaoxiong · 14/03/2024 06:49

In which case @ZippyGoose why am I having to go into my DC's school this week to challenge the PSHE teacher's new scheme of work where the words boy, girl, woman and man have been removed from their puberty lessons and a note in the scheme says that it's to be more inclusive of trans people. Leading to at least two boys coming home thinking they might be starting periods at some point in the future.

This isn't daft people saying daft things - it's an ideology that is changing what kids are taught in school, whether a woman in prison has to share a cell with a man, whether a woman can compete fairly in sport.

TinkerTiger · 14/03/2024 07:46

Using 'females' isn't transphobic or exclusionary, but I do agree that it tends to be used in a derogatory way. Usually by toxic men like: 'all you females want from men is our money', as often seen in shared instagram posts by a toxic male relative Confused

That being said, the word itself isn't derogatory, it's all about tone and context. A message of 'don't speak about women in a derogatory way' would suffice.

I agree with this.

MRAs and incels use the word female purposefully to dehumanise women.

But I don't think it's offensive if used in the usual correct way.

To be honest that's at least quite representative of the care you'll receive from the NHS, one of thr most ramshackle and ineffective health care systems in the world.

FrangipaniBlue · 14/03/2024 09:59

It's the bit where she says "using females is like you're stating a fact about a group of people".....

Erm, yeah?!

I tend to think this type of moral panic stuff usually sorts itself out and sensibleness prevails, truly. There’s all sorts of panic about women having to share cells with men and i just don’t see it happening - the odd case where the powers that be see sense once the ridiculousness is pointed out to them.

I’m sure the boys know they won’t be getting periods. My own two seem to understand the difference between male and female bodies pretty well.

Honestly as a feminist there are soooo many more worrying things on my radar. Low rape convictions. Domestic violence. Pay inequality. Etc etc. And as a human being so many more concerning things in the world, like Putin and Trump and the nightmare in the middle east. Some numpty on the internet not wanting the word female just doesn’t strike me as too worrying really. I just don’t accept that all the women are going to be forced to cut off our boobs and all the men are going to turn into women to rape us and share our changing rooms, really.

Err - it's already happened. And the women who pointed out the ridiculousness received sanctions (and extra time on their sentences in some circumstances!)

Low rape convictions. Domestic violence. Pay inequality. ... I just don’t accept that all the women are going to be forced to cut off our boobs and all the men are going to turn into women to rape us and share our changing rooms, really.

It's not forcing - it's enabling young people before their brains are mature, and it doesn't take all the men, just some of them (the boundary breakers) - and this is related to the low rape convictions and domestic violence.

But yes, broadly speaking, the opinions of some numpty on the internet about the word 'female' don't matter - except as a reflection (given the likes/popularity) on how some people, who have influence over our youngsters, are thinking.

Froodwithatowel · 14/03/2024 11:29

Time for a firm, "Well you're entitled to your opinion", and walking away from the batshit.

You're a bit behind the times there I'm afraid.

The time to pretend none of this would ever happen came and went about six years ago.
