According to an attention-seeking Aussie reality TV 'star'.

Apologies for DM link.

Abbie Chatfield calls very common word a 'slur' and 'transphobic' - so do you agree? | Daily Mail Online

You couldn't make this shit up.

Can someone post a link to the "it never happens" thread for @ZippyGoose Grin

katmarie · 14/03/2024 13:58

I tend to think this type of moral panic stuff usually sorts itself out and sensibleness prevails, truly.

It doesn't sort itself out. There isn't a magic social panic sorting out fairy that waves a magic wand and transforms people's thinking and behaviour.

It gets sorted out by people, usually women, asserting their rights, asserting safeguarding boundaries, and insisting that people think again. It gets sorted out by women putting in the time and effort to make sure it gets sorted out. Like so many other things in life.

I tend to think this type of moral panic stuff usually sorts itself out and sensibleness prevails, truly. There’s all sorts of panic about women having to share cells with men and i just don’t see it happening - the odd case where the powers that be see sense once the ridiculousness is pointed out to them.

I’m sure the boys know they won’t be getting periods. My own two seem to understand the difference between male and female bodies pretty well.

Honestly as a feminist there are soooo many more worrying things on my radar. Low rape convictions. Domestic violence. Pay inequality. Etc etc. And as a human being so many more concerning things in the world, like Putin and Trump and the nightmare in the middle east. Some numpty on the internet not wanting the word female just doesn’t strike me as too worrying really. I just don’t accept that all the women are going to be forced to cut off our boobs and all the men are going to turn into women to rape us and share our changing rooms, really.

It has already happened. No 'moral panic' here. 'In 2017, a rapist whose birth name was Stephen Wood, but who changed his name to Karen White, was placed in a women’s prison where he sexually assaulted two women.' www.crimeandjustice.org.uk/resources/men-have-no-place-womens-prisons Trans women were put in women's prisons with predictable consequences. In 2023 the MoJ changed it so trans women with penises and sex offenders had to go to male prisons but before that they really were put in women's prisons. In the article I link to the author says it's still not acceptable to house transgender men in women's prisons and I agree but that's where we are now.

Sorry, that last sentence should say 'transgender women'

This female believes that the word "transphobic" itself is up there with "blasphemy". The word itself has no real meaning because its based on an imagined state of reality.

EarthlyNightshade · 14/03/2024 17:34

coffy11 · 14/03/2024 03:11

I agree with her.

Do you think the word "males" is also transphobic?

GR8GAL · 14/03/2024 17:34

ahatfulllofdreams · 14/03/2024 03:36

It's going too far

I filled in a gp appointment request form yesterday. In the male/female/other section headed 'Sex' it had a pop up box that apologised for asking for this information, they need to collect this information to correspond with their medical records and locate the correct patient but are working on removing it as they realise it "it not ideal".

Since when was it not ideal to provide basic information about the sex you were born not ideal??!!

IMO If people find it so hard to just accept themselves without making a song and dance about it, why should society accept them at all?

The whole thing is a circus.

TempleOfBloom · 14/03/2024 17:36

Also when you say 'females' it sounds more like someone's stating a fact about a group of people,' she continued.

Well, yes. Exactly.

ShowOfHands · 14/03/2024 17:37

I don't like referring to women as "females" as it's usually derogatory or reductive. The linked person seems a bit unclear in her rambling, but is probably picking up on the way it's used. Nowt to do with transphobia of course.

On a side note, why do so many people start sentences with "I feel like..." or "it feels..." It seems like a strange symptom of feelings replacing facts. My students structure sentences like this all the time. "It feels like Dickens is saying x" or "I feel like Golding is introducing y theme". Rarely, do they say "I think".

And how the hell are we women ever going to get progress on these issues when the lived female experience is being hijacked by men?

If rape and violence are your concerns (as they rightly should be) then aren’t you worried about opening up women’s hard-fought-for single sex spaces to male-bodied people?

I don’t care how anyone identifies - life your best life - but I don’t want any male-bodied people, however they identify, in women's single-sex spaces.

This isn't even about trans-identifying people. Anyone can now say they identify as a woman, and get admittance to our spaces.

Of course males with ill intent will take advantage of that.

Exactly. 👏🏼 can’t have anything for ourselves. Even changing rooms now too that can be accessed by trans “women” The menopause- now there’s one recognised for men too. We are being gaslit that we are female because apparently ovaries wombs and generally women’s gynae issues aren’t real and don’t make us any more female than trans women.
Men are the main problem. In almost everything. Crime. War. Violence. Abuse. Female oppression.

egowise · 14/03/2024 08:09

I agree with this.

MRAs and incels use the word female purposefully to dehumanise women.

But I don't think it's offensive if used in the usual correct way.

Yes I find females a bit derogatory too, and like a nature documentary. ‘The female of the species will often eat her young’. But the usage is everywhere now… why can’t we just say women like the good old days.
fun fact, I only know Abbie chatfield is because a popular aboriginal insta account said she was transphobic 😂😂 leopards eating faces indeed.

You're very much out of the loop.
Here's 2 things:

  1. Rapes (and remember the definition of rape includes a penis) are being recorded as female crimes because of Rapid Onset Prison Dysphoria (or just a man in a dress).
Just one transwomen convicted of sexual assault or rape and their crime recorded as female will skew the figures immensely (currently approx 120 women in prison for SA), compared to 11,000 men.

  2. Pay inequality. We can't measure this accurately anymore because most workplaces who have been Stonewalled have removed 'Sex' from their personal records databases and replaced with "gender identity". For those of us who don't have a gender identity we have to select the "N/A". Transwomen will select Woman, and it only takes one highly paid male in a dress to distort the numbers.

So yes, saying the abolishment of the words use to describe and protect us is very important, if you care about those 2 things.^

Fimofriend · 22/04/2024 13:41

I think we should stop trying to find rational explainations as to why irrational people are saying irrational things.

MarioIa · 30/04/2024 10:27

How in hell have this 'minority' got the whole world scrabbling at their feet to agree to their 'rights' in such a short space of time.

Oh yeah, they're all men.

It mainly seems to be women supporting them, though, from what I've seen, and the supporters possibly outnumber the tiny number of actual transwomen.

Very few blokes seem interested in the whole woke thing aside from beardies at uni.
