Overheard in pharmacy

In pharmacy this morning overheard another customer asking for MAP

they were denied as the pharmacist says it’s against their religious beliefs

poor woman had called and asked if they stocked it and no one had advised her, she was getting close to the end of the 72 hour window

im so cross on her behalf that access can be blocked like this for women

These religious exemptions need to be removed from legislation. If you choose to be a pharmacist, you do the whole job, not just the bits you like. If you choose to be a registrar, you marry gay couples, not just straight ones. If you have religious scruples, choose a job that will accommodate them. Don't want to provide the MAP? Be a podiatrist then. I have zero time for any of it.

It seems that a lot of us agree.

How do we act to get these kind of exemptions removed from legislation? Does anyone know the process or of any organisations that would run a campaign? I would support it for sure.

I remember dealing with a shitty male pharmacist a few years ago when I went to get the MAP. I said I wanted it on the NHS, he said that would cost them money (I pay National Insurance, and it would cost them a hell of a lot more for me to have had an abortion or a baby.) Then he made me take it front of him, because apparently I had to (I didn't.) I felt like a naughty schoolgirl, not a grown woman in my 30s. Oh, and the way he said he was going to tell my GP was just weird. Like they were going to stop me from having sex. 🙄

Second time I had it I got it prescribed via my GP, and picked it up from the same place as last time, that time I spoke to female pharmacist who was more more understanding and didn't treat me like a child, and I didn't have to take it there and then, but waited till I got home.

Now I'm pregnant and that's definitely costing the NHS a lot more than giving me a MAP!

Exactly this.
