Shocking story, 12yo Semina Halliwell from Liverpool committed suicide after being raped and then harassed by a boy from her school. Her mother has said his family and friends joined in with the harassment until the poor girl could take no more.

Dr Jess Taylor has been reporting in the story via Twitter but in the news reports I’ve seen they make no mention of the fact that she was raped, most articles are just reporting it is a case of a 12yo girl dying in hospital with no context - Google her name and see for yourself.

RIP Semina

Her mother’s statement - twitter.com/drjesstaylor/status/1407367594068283394?s=21

God I fucking hate the Liverpool Echo site.
Reporting on a child's tragic death and all the way through, at practically every other sentence of text, there is some shitty advert or video shoehorned into it.

This makes me so angry. Particularly if those family members were adults. The rapist and that family (if it was the adults) should face custodial. What the actual hell possesses people to behave like this. It is abhorrent.

That poor kid. This is beyond unacceptable.

Heartbreaking.

I really hope the family and the rapist don't get away with this - even if the law won't come after them hopefully the community will shun them and the boy will have to face what he has done.

Dear God.
I have just seen this story so checked to see if already a thread.
I hadn't seen it last year somehow.

I've worked with young survivors of Rape & this is an awful case
(from the basic info available on the news)

I see today that money was offered for her grave to be vandalised.
How utterly sick can you get? Really horrific.

RIP Semina Halliwell.
Much love to her family who will have been through hell too.

I hope the Police involved are actually prosecuted as well as ALL those involved in her murder (as thats what it amounts to) and also the further torment of her family.

Horrendous. I don't understand why this is not headline news.

LunaLights · 07/04/2022 00:45

So the harassment is continuing even after her suicide? Offering money to have her grave vandalised?

RIP Semina, and peace and strength to her family.

*following so I can look into this tomorrow 😡

This thread is from last summer but it looks like there was more news on this case earlier this month after the family contact Sky as the police have continued to be ineffective:
news.sky.com/story/semina-halliwell-rape-victim-12-took-her-own-life-directly-after-police-interview-her-mother-tells-sky-news-12582931

The family claim the police (Merseyside) discouraged Semina from pursuing a complaint and it was immediately following a further interview, 3 months after the initial complaint, that Semina took the overdose that killed her. And they failed to take basic safeguarding actions like contacting the school so Semina could attend without being confronted by the boy who raped her.

They also failed to pursue several of the people who assaulted her and her siblings after her police complaint.

It sounds like her mother, Rachel, tried to get some rough justice, which I don't normally support, but it's hard to criticize when she's been so let down by the police: "Rachel was also convicted of an assault which took place shortly after Semina named the alleged perpetrator. Sky News cannot identify the victim for legal reasons."

I don't know how they will obtain it in the face of inhumanity from so many sources but I wish peace of mind and heart to Semina's family.

I sincerely hope the national press pick this up - this is absolutely horrific.

This was featured on the Zara McDermott documentary and it was harrowing. The poor girl and her mother.

Monitaurus · 09/04/2022 00:28

Just as the girls who tried to report Jimmy Savile were also discouraged by the police from pursuing their claim. Disgusting. So sad and angry for this and other families

It's very common for schools to dissuade parents from reporting sexual assaults and rapes.

An earlier distressing thread about young children who are raped or sexually assaulted in school:

In the first incident, a staff member saw the children in the corner of the playground – but then proceeded to tell the girl off.

“She was told off for having her knickers and her tights down around by her knees with one of these boys behind her,” Anna said.

On a second occasion, another member of staff saw one of the boys with his head up her skirt. The assistant told off the girl for letting the boy stick his head up her skirt, and the boys were just told to “run away”. The girl was not talked to separately, asked what had happened or whether she was OK.

Horrific poor girl

MsGoodenough · 10/04/2022 16:15

Utterly heartbreaking. Her aunt is active in twitter and shared her final photo of Semina the other day. I do t understand why this isn't headline news everywhere.

MsGoodenough · 10/04/2022 16:16

Her grave was also vandalised. These evil people didn't stop even after she died.
