For the fucking love of god ... words fail me

Simon Bailey, chief constable of Norfolk and the National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for child protection, has lent his support to the idea of wearing modesty shorts

Hey Simon maybe women should wear chastity belts when they hit puberty, that would bring down rape numbers.

The lead for child protection and this is the best he comes up with.

What happened to Navy Blue Knickers? Our games field was surrounded on 3 sides by public roads. We wore Aertex tops, navy blue knix, games skirt over that, so we pubescent young ladies were adequately clad in completely non revealing clothes. Despite this, the roads alongside (1960s, no parking restrictions) were lined with The Regulars, lurking alongside and gazing through the wire fences at us 11-15 year olds. It's really not about what women and girls are wearing.

When my DDs were at primary school I was very outspoken to the head when a lunchtime supervisor told the girls to stop doing handstands “because nobody wants to see your knickers “. I was beyond pissed off that these young girls - who were revelling in being able to do handstands, who were having fun - were made to feel self conscious about their underwear. I said - why is this woman even looking at their underwear in the first place??

I taught my DDs to say the same, to please carry on doing handstands, to enjoy their physical abilities and freedom.

Whole issue had me practically frothing at the mouth and even now I can feel my blood pressure rising 😬😂 Just let girls be children, FGS

So many issues here.

No of course it's not the girls ' fault. Women and girls should be able to walk around naked without being assaulted.

But girls knickers are now so flimsy and fabric is do thin that they don't always cover genitals properly. Boys pants are genrally made of thicker fabric and the binding round the legs keep them in place. Why do clothes manufacturers made girls knickers like this? Knickers used to be a lot sturdier! Sell proper knickers please shops!
Sitting down on the ground is also really uncomfortable wearing modern knickers, unless you tuck your skirt underneath, but why should little girls have to worry about that?

I still can't understand why the police fella isn't saying if there are men ogling 4yo in the playground at your school. Tell them to piss off and/ or call the police.

What the fuck.

Does anyone actually believe men perving over young girls will decline if girls wear shorts? I can see individual parents choosing shorts for their daughter, in the hope the predators choose the next girl instead, but if all girls then wear shorts, will we have solved the issue of pervy child abusing men, or will the men just perve over girls in shorts?

These are important points of course. I would like to think about them one at a time.

Does anyone actually believe men perving over young girls will decline if girls wear shorts?

In the situation I described in my earlier post a paedophile had been taking upskirt film of young children (the play equipment was designed for young children and not suitable for older children). Little girls aged 4 - 7 ish would be swinging from a rotating device maybe 6 feet off the ground. If they wore a skirt and knickers anyone sitting at a nearby bench or even passing by could see up their skirts.

The park keeper, a lovely man who had himself been abused as a child, was distraught that parents seemed unconcerned about their children dressing suitably for such equipment. He did not think that the little girls were Jezebels or in any way responsible for the proclivities of perverts, he simply was extremely anxious to protect children from predators. I shared his concerns.

I have no idea and do not think anyone can determine whether the pervert would perve less if he did not have access to the park, but this is, I think, missing the issue which is that we should all do our best to protect children and vulnerable adults.

If little girls are playing on a piece of exercise equipment that shows their knickers it will attract perverts just as water runs downhill. I wish this were not true but it is true and no amount of wishful positive thinking will change things and it will definitely not protect children from perverts.

I can see individual parents choosing shorts for their daughter, in the hope the predators choose the next girl instead, but if all girls then wear shorts, will we have solved the issue of pervy child abusing men, or will the men just perve over girls in shorts?

I was thinking about this and it seem to me that we could argue the same for protecting children from online predators. If parents protect one child will the predator stop perving and predating or whill he just more on to another child?

I don't know the answer but I believe that protecting children as much as possible is important and I defininelty do not belive that children's safety either in playgrounds or online should be ignored simply because if one child is protected the predator might simply more on to another. I know you don't think that either, just thinking aloud and engaging with the issues in my mind.

Surely it should be acceptible for concerned people, whother police, park keepers or just anyone to expect parents to consider child protection when dressing their children for rough / adventurous / athletic play activities?

Surely if parents are mindful of such threats it means that children are not only safer but are protected from having to be aware of such threats at a tender age when it is not appropriate for them to be aware of the detailed reality of the risks posed by paedophiles?

The only people responsible for violating children are the perverts violating them, however parents and carers of children need to be aware of safeguarding risks, simply because the wonderful world where childen can perform cartwheels naked and not be subjected to perving is a world that does not exist and we have to all deal with reality.

I know I'm late to the party - life got in the way but aren't they missing the point of knickers? They are there to cover the rude bits - they are not rude in themselves (at least not a primary age) so why do knickers need covering up? I've had this argument several times with my DD's teachers - decent fitting knickers on children are just one item of clothing & don't need covering up. Most playgrounds aren't overlooked so grown ups shouldn't be an issue and the reason girls get teased / wound up about this is because the grown-ups make a fuss & the other kids copy it. Plus in hot weather, I don't think mulitple layers are comfy or healthy.

I've also had to fight the PE teacher in Y5 over whether it was appropriate to wear a crop top (not a bra) to cover their (still completely undeveloped) nipples. The school has separate girls & boys changing rooms and anyway none of the boys were interested in the girls at all - let alone in that way. Again - all in the adults' heads. I won on that one & they didn't wear an extra layer on their top halves until they actually needed a bra.

I bought my DD shorts to wear under her school uniform. Not for modesty reasons but for comfort.

The shorts stopped her getting metal burns/friction burns from the play equipment.

Her knickers were tiny and didn't really cover much. Her shorts were long enough to cover the top part of her thighs.

If girls knickers were like boys boxers it would be so much better.

My girls have gingham play suits (Skorts ) this year, they prefer them to the summer dresses as don’t want to show off their knickers.

I would have loved them at primary so was delighted when I found them. That article is all types of wrong but I prefer shorts to the jail sentence I would get if I caught a pervert upskirting my 5 year old.
