Periods and the covid vaccine

I just saw this - apologies if it's been posted before.

'Scientists launch study to find out if COVID-19 vaccines are causing period changes after hundreds of women notice irregularities'

Also US based, so perhaps won't apply here, but still may be of interest.

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-9495727/Researchers-studying-women-report-changes-periods-taking-COVID-vaccine.html

The comments are veering into some pretty wild conspiracy theories, but I found it really interesting that there is potentially an impact on periods - especially after learning about immunity and oestrogen, etc.

Some very complex interactions, perhaps?

Have you noticed the reporting on this?

Sky’s headline right now is that it’s probably a coincidence. (Subtext: You silly women.)

BBC we’re saying something earlier about women ‘feeling’ their periods had been affected. Not knowing, or noticing. Feeling.

(But small victory, they knew it was women who have feelings about their periods.)

If a woman gets her period in a forest and there are no men there to observe it, has it even happened?

My local paper covering the issue. Predictably the comments on their FB were full of hilarious men joking that theirs had stopped completely 🙄

Argh so I previously said my period felt like it was coming on as normal, 3 weeks after Pfizer, as I had terrible PMT, 4 days later still no period, still struggling with raging PMT 😔 I'm not usually this late.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 23/06/2021 16:14

Mine was 9 days early after Pfizer. I track mine on an app and my cycles are pretty predictable. Waiting to see what happens this month. I did report on Yellow Card

doodlejump1980 · 23/06/2021 17:04

Today is now day 35 of bleeding.
AZ on 3rd May
Period started on 20th May and has not stopped.
Tranexamic acid not helping. Gp useless.
Have now reported via yellow card website.
2nd dose due on 2nd July.

ArabellaScott · 23/06/2021 17:13

doodle, what about if you ask your GP to refer you to a gynae?

If your period lasts more than 7 days, they recommend seeing a GP, and if you've not had any help, then surely worth getting it checked out?

Am so glad to find this. Have had horrible PMT migraines the lot. Am 2 weeks after vaccine.

PurpleyBlue · 23/06/2021 17:47

Oops meant to say and I haven't had these for years.

doodlejump1980 · 23/06/2021 22:13

Already been referred and scanned for fibroids etc. Scans showed nothing. They’ve been shite since I had my twins 6 years ago.

Jesus, that article is dismissive.

Basically if women make a fuss, we are contributing to the spread of conspiracy theories...?

acatcalledjohn · 24/06/2021 10:44

It's the usual "women, put up and shut up" attitude.

I found the article linked below an interesting read and am so pleased to see that research is finally being done in to female health.

I'm sorry. If I were you I would keep pestering. You shouldn't have to, of course, but sometimes you don't get anywhere with medics unless you are the squeaky wheel. Second opinion? Further investigation?

So the bleeding lasted 37 days and only stopped after I took tranexamic acid for 4 days.
Got my second jab on Friday. Hopefully it won’t start again!

ArabellaScott · 30/06/2021 22:53

Glad you found something to sort it, doodle! Yes, hope it doesn't happen again.
