Long term depression... Dr upped Prozac to 60mg 6 weeks ago, hasn't really worked, nor has Citalopram, any ideas what might work for me?

Thanks.

you'll need to say a bit more really...

Is your depression in response to something? Did you have a difficult childhood for example. If you have issues to work through, maybe drugs are not the solution?

Can you ask to get referred for CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy)? Or some other kind of therapy? These may get to the root of the problem.

For me, ADs were the solution, because I had what felt like a chemical imbalance after birth of DD, there weren't any particular reasons why I felt so low and anxious. The ADs just helped me through that difficult time.

Otherwise there are adjunct drug therapies, e.g. mood stabilisers that can work alongside ADs, to "boost" the AD effect.

Hope you get some help xx

Thanks for responding G.

I was going to explain, but it would end up being so long, I was once going to on here after a solicitor told me mine was the saddest life story he'd ever heard, but a poster replied saying they were going to pull up a chair and get a cuppa, made me feel like I was was just some kind of sideshow freak entertainment, and not that that they wanted to genuinely help.

And then after 'that' threead yesterday, I'm terrified of saying too much... I would be accused of being a troll, my life story is just so, well unbelieveable... Even to me.

I've been on and off AD's for years, had CBT, lots of counselling and the like, nothing seems to help, my CPN mentioned personality disorder which I was horrified at, but having read up on it somewhat, perhaps it is...

I will maybe mention mood stabilisers to Dr, but I think he wanted me to try something else if the increase in dosage didn't work.

sertraline? and venlafaxine are effetive alternatives if others having no effect.
You can ask to be referred to IAPt for counselling if you think that would help?

Sorry to hear that Lifegoeson I generally just hang around mental health so don't know about "that" thread, or about trolling really. I avoid AIBU and others now and just stay around here, where there are some genuinely lovely people, who do genuinely want to help, and can sympathise because they have "been there".

I don't think you'll find anyone round here (mental health section) treating you like a "freak show", it's a very non-judgemental section, but can understand that you'd feel exposed and vulnerable, sharing your life story. And particularly if it's harrowing and upsetting.
