Depressives! Are you worse when it's a full moon?

I've been suffering a particularly difficult depressive episode in the last few days, seemingly unexplicably. Not PMT, not anything related to anything obvious. Then my mum told me she was just talking to a colleague of hers (these are professionals, we're talking about - sensible, educated women!) who said that she gets stressed out when she has PMT and when it's a full moon, and when they co-incide she's like a monster!

It was a full moon on Saturday night. I'm going to start keeping an eye on when my moods darken from now on. Has anyone else noticed a pattern? Is it just folklore?

there is certainly something in this theory.

I have a friend who is a security guard at Broadmoor and they all dread the night shift when it is a full moon. Apparently it really does affect some of the patients.

Read this though the page appears have strobing which is odd and hurt my eyes

That explains a lot. I was a nightmare Thursday - Saturday. I had PMT too.

I'm not sure but I've heard that babies/children play up more too.

I did read some research saying that GP appts for mental disorders were not increased around the time of the full moon, but that, of course, doesn't mean that people don't suffer more. Probably they have to wait so long for an appointment that if it's only bad around the full moon, it's got better by the time they get to see the GP!

That link is really interesting, BBM, thank you.

If bipolars count as depressives and if my little bipolar forum is any indicator then yes, we have more people than usual struggling with anxiety and depression at the moment or in hospital.

Think the lunar eclipse might be at fault too.

Mitchy - I think if it affects depression, then it must affect any form of mental illness...and possibly physical illness too. Why wouldn't it? We know it affects a a whole lot of other natural processes on the planet. Humans are just another configuration of atoms.
