At what point of feeling suicidal should I speak to someone about it?

That's really it...What exactly are worrying suicidal thoughts? Do I have to be about to harm myself or should I start to worry beforehand, like when I think not existing anymore would be the best solution or when I wonder what would be the best way to end things?

If you are really so down and contemplating anything like this i would suggest that you get in touch with the appropriate medical people who hopefully would help you.Im sure someone will have the addresses of places that you can phone. Please get help if you think / know you need it.

I can't really help either but wanted to reply also so you know you are in our thoughts. Have you phoned or emailed Samaritans? Please do.

I don't want to make a fuss about nothing. am wondering to which extend thoughts like that are normal and if all people have them.

I am already on Prozac and have been getting on well so far, only yesterday I fell in a really deep hole for a few hours. Feeling better again today.

Thank you so much for your replies.

At the point you are at now, you need to speal to GP. They can talk through options with you, including mental health services.

At the beginning. Thinking about ending your life is an early symptom of a potentially fatal disease. Don't delay in getting treated.

CaroJo · 22/05/2010 18:58

Even if I just feel like that for a few hours at a time? Would the GP not think I'm overreacting?

Sorry for all the questions...

Yes, even if you just* feel like that for a few hours at a time.

No, the GP will not think you are overreacting.

No need to apologise, it is very hard to have a clear perspective on something like this.

*just nothing - feeling like you might want to end your life for hours at a time is a big deal, not a small one

CaroJo · 22/05/2010 19:04

Thank you skidoodly,
I guess I have been upset for such a long time that I forgot that this is not how everyone feels...

it depends - there is a big difference between wishing you were dead and looking for the best way to kill yourself. Many of us on this board have or have had the former without being much of a risk, the latter is more worrying.

But neither should be taken lightly as wanting to be dead is a surefire sign that things are not as they should be.

So go see your GP on Monday and if things get worse/more urgent contact OOH/A&E

skidoodly · 22/05/2010 19:07

No, it really isn't. Go and get some help with it.

I really hope you feel better soon

crumpette · 22/05/2010 19:16

I think you should ring samaritans, even if you 'just' feel like it for a small amount of time. Don't feel like you need to be about to harm yourself to talk to someone, people who are okay never entertain the notion of suicide. Do go and see your GP, but do also give the samaritans a call at any time of the day or night. 08457 90 90 90 x

Yes, definitely go and see GP straightaway as soon as you feel like this. It may only be at the stage of fantasy but that fantasy is a sure sign of really severe depression and if it's left untreated it's not likely to go away. Please get help.

Thinking of you.
