ADs that don't knock you out

Hi everyone

I wondered if anyone had any experience of ADs that don't knock you out. i think I need to go back on them. In the past I've had seroxat - worked in that I stopped feeling depressed, but also stopped feeling anything at all.
Prozac didn't work. Citalopram was brilliant - felt like myself again for the first time in years and it seemed to kick start me chemically because I felt ok for ages after stopping taking it. But the downside was this permanent lethargy and weight gain. Life's so busy right now with small kids, my job, a house that needs renovating, voluntary work, parents in very poor health. I just can't afford to have that sluggish feeling all day long - it's the main reason I've held off for so long but not sure I can keep going without them.

Thank you everyone who replied to my other whinging thread!

Hello racingheart I don't really know enough about AD's to give you any advice. I have taken seroxat in the past and found it horrendous, decided to go cold turkey and was next put onto citalopram (this was around 4 ago). I was doing OK but stupidly forgot to re-new my prescription and had a total meltdown which scared me to death (and again went cold turkey).

I'm rambling aren't I? What I am trying to say is if citalopram worked for you in the past , maybe have a chat with your GP about your concerns he/she might be able to give you something else. I have swallowed my fears and gone back to the citalopram - early days but fingers crossed.

Good luck , have a chat with your doc and hope you start to feel better really soon.

I am on Citalopram and finding it great for me. I don't notice any lethagy but compared to what I had due to depression maybe I wouldn't notice it. You can take it at night before bed and this can help to prevent tiredness. It can also be effective at low doses - e.g. 10mg a day. HTH
