I've only been on it since last Saturday but I'm getting very tired in the afternoons. I want to take it at tea time instead, will this be ok? [nervous]

I did this too, I had been tired in the day and sleepless at night when I took them in the morning. When taking them at night was suggested, I couldn't believe I hadn't thought of it. Works much better now.
Good luck.

I take mine at night. I had seen several people mention it on here. Took me a week at least to adjust - have done nearly 4 weeks of it now. Good luck coco x

Thanks for your replies, I changed over the weekend and it's been much better today.

I was better when i changed to taking them before bed. It meant that the feeling of being in cotton wool was over with by the time i got up and they were kicking in properly (for me)

tippytumbles · 29/04/2010 17:24

I have been prescribed these by my GP today (20mg) I took first one about 10 mins ago, can anyone tell me how many days/weeks it will take for me to start feeling that I can function again?

Rockbird · 29/04/2010 17:26

Definitely a good idea. Much better to take them before you sleep.

I'm almost jealous, I had to come off mine to ttc and I really really want them back, I find things almost impossible to deal with without them and am a horrible person to all around me. I've never smoked but imagine this is how it feels to give up.

Good luck.

Fear not rockbird I was a total cowbag when I came of mine in january but it gets much better!

IMoveTheStars · 29/04/2010 17:51

it's a good idea - i started off taking mine in the mornings and found the side-effects horrible. Switched to evenings and it was much better.

cocolepew · 29/04/2010 22:19

Thanks everyone, tippy I found they started to help within a few days.

Thank you cocolepew I'll keep my fingers crossed that by next week I might be able to do this rather than this

edwardcullensotherwoman · 30/04/2010 11:19

Coco - I had to do this because I was so spaced out by 6pm if I took them at breakfast! changed to taking them after tea/before bed so my "spacey" time was while I was asleep, and it helped immensely.

Tippy I can vouch for them too, had the same scrip as you (20mg) felt better after a few days, and after a couple of weeks I was almost normal.

FWIW (obviously everyone's different but thought I'd share my good experience) I was on them for PND (prescribed 13months after birth) and came off them after 10 months as I felt so much better. I did have counselling aswell though.

Best of luck everyone!

I'v changed it again I was having very vivid dreams when I took it at night. I'll get it right yet

edwardcullensotherwoman · 01/05/2010 11:29

oh dear don't knwo what to suggest really. I have vivid dreams anyway so can't say I noticed a difference in mine! hehe.

Hope you work it out soon

Saffysmum · 01/05/2010 19:43

It takes you about 2 weeks to start to benefit from Citalopram. After about 4 weeks you should feel much better. You will get vivid dreams with them if you take them at night, but at least you're sleeping - a lot of people who take them in the morning are exhausted all day, then wide awake all night. After a couple of months, sleep will be much better. Also, if you increase/decrease your dose, the dreams will often return. Hope they work for you, I've seen them change many lives around, so stick with them.

cocolepew · 01/05/2010 20:56

Thanks I have very vivid dreams anyway and if I took them in the morning they had stopped but I still manage to fall asleep very quickly. I'll stick to mornings, I'm a bit tired but not completely exhausted.

I’ve just started on citalopram this week on 10mg I’ve definitely noticed a difference but still some side effects especially in the morning my heart races, dizzy, feel sick can’t concentrate and irritable should I change from evening to morning?
if so how do I do that?
i am due to start on 20mg next week

janewayxchakotay · 18/03/2025 22:16

I disagree I have bipolar and take this. Psychiatrist advised morning as it’s a stimulant
