is it as basic as not being actively suicidal (eg planning and actively preparing) or do you set the bar quite a bit higher than that for yourself?

Yeah getting through the day without any nasty thoughts. Ultimately to have some points in the day where I feel happy or actually crack a smile. Would like to have a hobby or past time that interested me and that I looked forward to. Till then I will just hold onto the fact that I enjoy and am interested in my job.
How bout you?

I count it as days where I don't have uncontrollable anxiety. I may still be anxious and at times a bit low but I can control it. That to me is coping. Oh and having a good nights sleep helps!

MitchyInge · 19/04/2010 20:22

think have various levels of it

it does depend doesn't it? there are the days when just brushing your teeth is an amazing achievement, and times when earning a decent living and socialising and developing interests counts as coping at reasonable level

Washed, dressed & not eating from the packet is coping. But I hope for more.

MitchyInge · 20/04/2010 08:05

I'll settle for washed

Babysteps. Washing may lead to the discarding of the dressing-gown!

(it's ok, I slept in my clothes )

Blimey! Then you've already achieved 33% of today's objectives! If you can brush your teeth, wipe the worst of the mascara streaks off and run a brush through your hair then you're almost done and it's still morning!

Some of that sounds like Advanced Coping - have been in these clothes since Thursday. Waiting for environmental Health to tow me away/subject me to controlled explosion

in other ways am coping - work, school, animals

think need more than Lucky Strikes tho

rofl @ "advanced coping" - now that was never a leaflet I saw at the psych centre - i see a niche in the market here! "Coping for beginners", "Dressing-gowns for Dummies!", "Paper plates are your friends". Tons of scope there!

Got any cake? Coffee & fags can send even the calmest more jittery. Weetabix is pretty easy to make.

hahaha - love it

might start own Overcoming Competitive 'Acopicism' (in the a-cope-ic sense) Group as I read and think 'God, who copes well enough to put MASCARA on' or 'use any sort of plate?'

this assessing own coping level thing is like a neverending game of fortunately/unfortunately

eg: fortunately I went to work

unfortunately I listened to Bangles Eternal Flame on repeat in between jobs and cried constantly x10000000

or, fortunately have eaten

unfortunately was entire packet of jaffa cakes left out by unsuspecting customer

fortunately have cheered self up posting on MN

unfortunately am irretrievably honest

fortunately am riding after work

unfortunately people will start to wonder if all my other clothes have been stolen and might start a whip round

etc
