Depression and five year old son

hello. I was hoping I could get some advice and opinions. I have suffered from depression on and off for several years, but a few weeks ago it go so bad I had a "mini" breakdown for want of a better phrase and was taken to hospital. Since then I am struggling to cope with normal day to day life and this of course has had an effect on my children. My son in particular has become clingy and very protective. He has been very reluctant to go to school although he is fine once he is in there. My question is should I tell my sons school what is going on at home? my daughter is in juniors and they do know and have said they will give her any support she needs in school and will let me know if anything does arise. What do people think? thanks very much

It sounds like your son needs you to tell his school. He needs you to take charge and be the grown-up as much as you can muster and stop him from trying to be all grown up and protective. I think you can really help him by making it clear that you and his teacher together are taking care of him.

yes his teacher(s) needs to be told.
