Probably depressed - will the midwife be able to help?

That's it really. No point going into details again but there are very real things in my life that are making me unhappy, and I have been thinking for a while that I am probably depressed, as I am overreacting horribly to small things at times, and starting to struggle to get out of the house.

I'm 5.5 months pregnant and like my midwife. I don't want to see my GP so can I just make an appointment to see my midwife and talk to her about getting referred for counselling / possible meds? I don't want to tell her only to have to be referred to the GP and work up my courage to explain it all again.

Anyone got help through this route?

TIA

You might find you have to see a GP but I you explain to your midwife why you are reluctant to do so, she could explain your circs to the gp prior you going to see them, which would stop you having to explain anything twice.

Hope that helps

Thanks. I've got an antenatal appointment next week so I suspect I will just have to get up the courage to talk to the GP then. I just walk into these things with my brave face on and find it hard to let go and talk

Could you maybe call your midwife and see if she would come see you at home? Would that make it easier? Or maybe calling her this week and talking over the phone, that way you can not focus on the stress of having to see someone.
