Hello, I was just wondering if anybody has ever rung the Samaritans? If so what was your experience? Obviously I don't expect to know why it was you contacted them just if they were helpful.
thank you

Hi I haven't called them, but did not want your post to go unanswered.

My friend is a samaritan and has told me how it works. When you call your call could be directed anywhere in the country, basically it goes to the first free line so the caller is not waiting too long. All calls are taken by experienced trained people, and monitored by a supervisor. They do not advise or judge you, but offer a listening ear and help you talk through your problems.

You can have face to face session by booking up.

My cousin rang them when she was very down and found the experience helpful. Sometimes it is easier to talk over what is bothering you with someone you dont know.

Hope you are ok.

I actually went dropped in to see them and got face to face session on the spot. Felt really weird but did actually help me as I couldn't talk to family and friends at the time. The lady was really nice and it did make me feel better TBH, but feel a bit embarrassed about it now!

I am really thinking seriously about training to be a Samaritan. I don't know if I can do it though, I feel a bit scared. But I really want to help people and just want to find a way of doing that. My job doesn't really help people in any meaningful way, and that is one of my biggest life regrets.
