Not exactly sure this is going to be helpful to people who have depression.

moodlum · 13/02/2010 09:03

'Psychiatry - an industry of death' - probably not one for the clinically depressed?

teatotal · 13/02/2010 09:11

I found the cause of my depression, it was unseen mould/fungi hidden in wall cavities. Found in homes/workplaces causes indoor air pollution. Lots of info online re this and bipolar/depression. The biggest pill in the world wouldn't have helped if the cause was still there and making my body/brain toxic due to the poisons mould/fungi produces.

Are you Tom Cruise?

teatotal · 13/02/2010 09:23

Tom Cruise, I wish! No but I read an article many years ago which asked how can a chemical produced in a factory heal the human body? I kept finding the the same sort of info in so many books and have never taken anything for 20 years.

I am very glad that you feel you are cured now teatotal.

I still maintain that for someone who is currently experiencing depression, your link is not at all helpful. My experience has been that ADs stopped me from killing myself and my unborn child. And I really do not think it came from mould (although seeing our house people might beg to differ )

teatotal · 13/02/2010 10:01

Well my home was a palace nothing could be seen with the naked eye. You can see on google images hidden mould and the research to menal illness. Believe me, I thought I was going round the bend and the only change in our lives was that we had moved house!

WTF????

ups and downs = bipolar disorder

Frankly what a load of rubbish

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 13/02/2010 19:10

WTF?

teatotal · 13/02/2010 19:19

We all have problems and ups and downs but this was like nothing I had ever experienced. Thought I must have alzheimers or dementia. I had many other symptons too. The 'deadliest' mould 'STACHYBOTRYS' was found in indoor air pollution testing but nothing could be seen with the naked eye. They are burning down million dollar homes in the USA and lots of lawsuits. Check your insurance policy for mould/fungi, you may be covered. Also see mould symptom list.

I will look it up teetotal, but what has that got to do with the video, sorry hadn't time to watch it all, but the general message seemed to be that institutional psychiatry was just out to make money from medication.

topsi · 13/02/2010 20:37

Sorry, the video aluded to the fact that modern psychiatry was trying to turn every day problems into a psychiatric diagnosis, such as 'ups and downs' to bipolar disorder and 'loss of a loved one' to major depression and the like.
It seemed like a very biased view of psychiatry.

topsi · 13/02/2010 20:54

OK so read up a bit on mould, wierd one !
Is this a big problem in USA?? I used to live in a flat that was riddled with mould and yes I was depressed etc etc are you saying that you think alot of mental illness is caused by mould in our homes and not an inbalance of neurotransmitters??
Please write some more I am interested

teatotal · 13/02/2010 22:36

I don't know what neurotransmitters are but I will google it and find out. If you google 'toxic mold (US spelling) depression' it will give you more info' I didn't know about this (sick building syndrome) until it happened to me and it appears to to a worldwide issue.

Forgot to say, enter the same search in google images. This is to enlighten not frighten.

Well I have diabetes and without artifical insulin, a chemical made in a factory, I'd be dead. So no doubts here that something artificial can heal..

What would you suggest as a non-factory produced alternative treatment for me?

GetDownYouWillFall · 14/02/2010 19:08

hi teatotal, I think this is an interesting video. I am quite skeptical as my MIL is an american who has lots of conspiracy theories concerning american drug companies etc.
However, one aspect of the video I think is true - that if someone walks into a psychiatrist's office with a problem, they are pretty much guaranteed to come out with a prescription.

I think use of psychiatric drugs is way over-the-top in this country, but it's wrong to say there is "no clinical evidence" for their effectiveness e.g. lithium is proven to stabilise those with bi-polar.

willsurvivethis · 14/02/2010 19:40

teatotal from the house with one depressed and one ptsd sufferer thanks for the entertainment but do try some science for a change when you get bored with this

GetDownYouWillFall · 14/02/2010 20:11

massive alarm bells rang when teatotal said she had never heard of a neurotransmitter TBH.

teatotal · 14/02/2010 20:13

I am strugging to think what ptsd means and am sure as soon as I hit the send button I will realise. Can you please let me know anyway, many thanks! Concerning science did you know about the 27,000 research papers linking mould/fungi to almost everything? There are 100 plus symptoms so something for everyone, I had at least eight due to 24/7 exposure in the home, couldn't function as normal, my blood/brain was being poisoned known as mycotoxins.

willsurvivethis · 14/02/2010 20:14

Indeed GetDown

DH is a doctor in physics and read A LOT before taking pills. He's a vicar these days and I better not quote what he had to say about Teatotal's comments.

I'm a lawyer and have dealt with the CCHR before - there stuff is not admissible in the courts I appear in as it is just not credible.

For what it is worth my ptsd is very real caused by real reasons and has so far been managed without drugs.

teatotal · 14/02/2010 20:15

Ooops, sorry struggling!

SkipToMyLou · 14/02/2010 20:15

I don't usually quote Wikipedia, but en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_Commission_on_Human_Rights.

Excuse me if I don't fall over myself to thank Scientology for its insight to the human condition. I can't help it, I have a brain and I know how to use it.

willsurvivethis · 14/02/2010 20:17

sick building syndrome was big news in the late 80s then largely discredited.

Teatotal, you don't know what neurotransmitters are or post traumatic stress disorder be careful what you post.

I have been so low as to thinking it was best if I disappeared so my ds would get a better mummy, luckily I managed to reach out to a friend. Courtesy of neglect and sexual abuse as a child. Ditto my dh is depressed because the abuse he suffered made him feel worthless and useless. Mould??? Get real, you're insulting both of us and a lot more people.

teatotal · 14/02/2010 20:53

My depression was so different to many awful events in my life too so I can relate to what you are saying and more. I was able to move on from them all after being told stop playing them like an old record... rewind and delete! My mould exposure - I couldn't think with clarity, my brain was like scrambled eggs, constantly dizzy, I was in a trance like state and my conversations with the children were yes and no answers. Not trying to insult anyone just telling (the truth) it like it is.
