Just come off Citalopram and had a BAD morning - come and talk to me!

Been on Citalopram for just over 7 months, was only on 10mg daily but despite it being a "sub-therapeutic dose", it was hell to get on, did the trick, and is making feel very weird coming off it. I feel tired, headcahey, have a sore throat and am dizzy, but what's worrying me is this morning. DS1's playgroup is off today and so I had a day of things planned to keep us all busy and out of the house. Problem is, it then took me over an hour to get both little blighters ready and get our stuff together, at which point I realised I couldn't find my bag so we couldn't do any of it.

It made me really bad tempered and by the time I found it (after half an hour turning the house upside down) I feel demoralisd and have just stopped bawling.

Am trying to work out if that's a fairly "normal" reaction to events under the circumstances, or if am still not quite right. Have been feeling tip top recently though and desperately want to be off the drugs for good.

Anyone know what I'm going through? Are these sort of side effects fairly common when coming off?

Sorry you have had a bad morning. Maybe its just a bad day. what were your reasons for going on and then comming off the AD if i can ask. have you been able to slowly cut your dose down, may have been difficult if you were on a low dose. sometimes these drugs come in liquid form which allows you to take a lower dose than you may find in the tablets, or could take a tablet every other day.

Sounds like you may have just had a bad day, not necessarily anything to do with coming of the citalopram. As you say, you were on a low dose. I bought a pill cutter and have been slowly shaving bits off mine to try and get off them once and for all. Was scared of getting withdrawal effects, so my way is to just slowly wean myself off bit by bit.
Also sore throat, headachey - sounds like you might have a cold coming.

hello - managed to talk myself up and get us all out in the end so hope it was just a combo of trying to get two youngs kids out of the house on a miserable day...

topsi - I went on them when my DS2 was 10 months old. I basically burnt out, co-slept, breastfed and didn't sleep for 10 months. Also had a lot of other factors stressing me out and I just couldn't cope with it. I wanted to come off because I've been feeling much better and want to not be dependant on them (I think I've been more anxious in some ways on them than off, oddly) and I want to find other non-medicinal ways to manage the state of my head...

GetDown (great name!) I didn't know you could buy pill cutters! I was just chopping mine in half and taking half for a few days but I stopped around Sunday, I think. Been having some weird head spinny sensations which I think I remember from the last time I took them. But think you're right about the cold coming, it doesn't help!

pill cutters - yes they are ok, I got mine from Boots just £2.50 or thereabouts.
They are not as accurate as I'd like, but they do the job and it saves using the kitchen knives and chopping boards and getting fragments of drugs all over the place!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants to come off my medication, the dr. I see was a bit when I said I wanted to come off. He just couldn't understand why I would want to! Sometimes I despair of their "pill for every ill" attitude...
