CBT has great results for people who suffer anxiety. I did not have this but after 3 years of medicating and beta blockers etc i decided to try self help. I booked into a relaxation clinic and had accupuncture, got to say, once you are taught how to cope with it, its the best feeling in the world. I have suffered palpitations since birth of my daughter, so much so i convince myself its a heart attack, defo found alternative treatments much much more beneficial than medication. Have an open mind and dont be scared, to feel better is the best gift you can give yourself, what have you got to lose? x

Thanks Mrs, am reluctant to try medication, I want to try working through it first. My anxiety is placed all over (planes, lifts, people, boms - sounds siilly writing it down but its irrational) but my main problem is fear of loosing my children. Its affecting m badly now.

CBT helped me a great deal with my anxiety and I still often use the techniques that I learned to stop racing thoughts and get back into my body.

Learning relaxation and grounding techniques has also helped me a lot, hopefully your counsellor will do a bit of this too.

You will probably be asked to keep a record of negative thought patterns etc, which can seem like a huge hassle, but it works really well if you put the effort in.

Good luck, I hope it helps you. Anxiety is beyond awful.

Hello

I had CBT for anxiety a few years ago. I was a bundle of nerves, I couldn't walk down the street without imaging all sorts of tragedy that could happen to me. During the sessions I was surprised at how much of a mental work out it was and I would leave feeling very drained. I didn't feel like it was resolving my anxiety at first - and it was hard to keep going. After a while it all seemed to fall into place and I could see clarity to my thought process. I could identify when a situation was going to spiral out of control in my head and stomp on it. I am a much happier and relaxed person today thanks to the CBT. I hope it helps you as much as it did me.

thankyou,

the draining i understand, whenever i 'go off on one' i feel like that so i imagine it will be hard to purposely go through it all to break it down.

Looks hopeful though
