They will - just keep taking them. Took me about two weeks. They made me yawn a lot too..for some reason.
Keep smiling, you WILL feel like you again I promise.x

Ime (I am a mental health nurse) a week is a bit to early to notice a difference.

Usually one would say 2-3 weeks minimum. It will be a very gradual improvement. Some people find that after 7-10 days there is a tiny improvement. For example if you have been having early morning waking you may wake a bit later, or if appetite is poor you may find you eat something and find it easier to eat.

Also meant to add that in the next 2-3 weeks you should feel significantly better - I know it doesn't feel possible at the moment. Good luck

Hi mumof2,

I found citilopram very helpful. I would say if you are not feeling any different after 7 days, go back to your doctor to increase the dose. You know if you are in crisis now, you need something that kicks in within a few days not six weeks!

Please go back to your doctor if you do not feel better.

Hugs

flakecake It's great that the Citalopram made you feel much better. Hope the OP is starting to feel a bit better now as well.

However, antidepressants do not start to work fully within 7 days. Some people find that they do feel a little better very quickly, but this may be more the relief that they have sought help; it won't be the therapeutic effect of the medication at such an early stage.

ADs take at least 2-3 weeks to get into your system. Usually a GP or Psychiatrist would not review the dose until 4-6 weeks. Increasing it after 7 days wouldn't make it work more quickly.

mumof2 Sorry you are still feeling bad. Apart from the occasional glass of wine or similar, drinking can stop the ads from working properly. Sorry, don't mean to sound bossy, also I am not suggesting that you are drinking too much. I know in the short term a few drinks are relaxing etc, but with depression and on ads they can make things worse.

If no improvement after a week or so then go back to doctor. He or she could refer you to a CPN/Crisis Team or similar if you are really struggling.

I must of been very sensitive to citilopram, I felt better after 48hours (2x20mg)....was in complete OCD land for six months previous to that! I suppose everyone is different!
