What do you do when you can feel you may be slipping a bit?

Am long term depressive - not on ADs at the moment having successfully cut down over the past 18 months or so.

Can feel myself slipping a bit - not depressed yet but either (a) need a kick up the bottom or at least (b) some suggestions of how to bring myself up a bit.

Any thoughts welcome

I tell a friend, who then has permission to help me with the bits I'm struggling most with.

For example, when I'm feeling low I really really struggle with feeding everybody - I just can't be bothered with food. I have a friend who will sit with me and work out a meal plan. That really helps.

Be honest with yourself. You can keep telling yourself you're only slipping a bit fo a long time, right until you realise you are actually very depressed.

Maybe start by making an honest assessment of what is going on, do you need to make some changes to diet/sleep/exercise or is there more the matter?

I try and do lots of nice things - see friends that don't expect too much of me, buy myself a small treat, go easy on myself at work, have early nights with a good book from the library, and go for walks.

I'd echo what Will says though - make sure you don't leave it for too long before checking in with your GP or CPN

Have done a tiny bit of tidying, which is a Good Thing

Thank you for all the messages - I am generally doing exercise, am being a bit better at going to bed at a sensible time. Am having a bit too much refined sugar but am trying v hard not to buy too much, then I can't eat it.

Main person who knows about it is DH but not sure he is in the right frame of mind on the jollying along front at the moment. There is a friend I feel I probably could talk to about it, but will see how that goes.

If I am still feeling wobbly in a week or so I will go and talk to the GP

Hope you feel better soon - this time of year never helps, does it

I would definitely recommend confiding in a friend other than DH. He will be too close to the situation.
