I've been on Citalopram for four weeks, after denying I had PND for about a year. I feel better but am due to go back to work tomorrow. I am dreading it. Scared it will set me back. Things been great with partner and been enjoying baby so much. Am I just being lazy or could I have a bit longer? Has anyone gone back to work - any advice?

Hi there

I had already gone back to work by the time my PND was diagnosed (when dd was 15 months old ). It was when I was on a couple of weeks annual leave that I plucked up the courage to speak to my gp. I was really nervous about going back to work but I found it helped me. It made me feel better as I was something other than a mum. I also chose not to tell anyone at work about my pnd and that meant I could get away from it while I was at work. I only work 2 days away btw so I don't know if it would be different if I worked more hours.

See how you get on but I found it helpful.

Good luck x

Agree with ladymarian but also see the value in staying at home a while longer - particularly as your relationship with baby sounds like it is becoming stronger.

I had severe PND which wasn't diagnosed until DS1 was 10 months old (tbh I had been ante-natally depressed too but it really kicked in shortly after birth). With DS2 it kicked in at 7 months - despite a euphoric 6 months beforehand. In both instances, I know that I could not have coped with returning to work during the early stages of recovery (which imo 4 weeks is). If you can, and your gut feeling supports this, stay at home for a while longer. Enjoy the feelings you have and work with them before taking on any unnecessary stresses and strains.
