Just been prescribed Citalopram - not had it before. Am i going to feel "out of it" when it kicks in?

Just 20mg for now but most likely upping the dose in a few weeks.

The feeling as though you are underwater is a good description of the first few weeks.

But after that, it was fine and I felt like 'me' again. Gave me the 'room' in my head to try Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - which even though my depression was fairly severe, worked really well.

When time comes to come off, do it slowly.

Good luck. Hope things get better.

I haven;t yet taken mine today - i felt so bad yesterday that i am going to see if taking it at night makes any difference.

My GP said everyone feels sick with it. Have had a headache since i started taking it and still feel underwater. feel worse now than i did before i started which is worrying as i didn't think i could feel worse

However, i AM persevering.....for now

MOM give it a bit longer, and it is a good idea to try taking it at night, but if you still feel really bad in a few more days go back to your doctor - there are alternatives and it doesn't suit everyone.

I felt sick but also so tired I had no energy to feel anything iyswim! I still get headaches now if I am late with a dose

Hope you feel OK soon.

hmm well last night was a bit odd, i probably made a mistake taking it with alcohol - lasted an hour before my headache and nausea arrived and made it home in time to vomit in the style of the exorcist

have NOT had tonights with alcohol and will see how i go, i have the headache already and just starting to get sick feeling. Realised why i feel worse and it may not be down to just meds so will muddle thru. DH off to Italy for a few days early 2mo morning-does anyone mind if i keep posting on here? my other thread kind of died and don't want to be the one who bumps it

MOM keep posting all you like - we had a citalopram buddies thread on here last year when I first started them and it really helped me get through.

Pot and kettle here as I have just finished a bottle of Smirnoff ice but try and avoid alcohol for a while - it is a depressant and reacts with / negates the effects of the ADs

You have been on them for a week already so should start to feel better in the next few days.

Take care over the next few days with your dh away - it was / is always my riskiest time; is there anyone around who can help you with the dcs?

MerlinsBeard · 29/05/2009 22:34

Am not a\ massive drinker but am not entirely sure just how i will get thru next couple of days.

No no one to help - DH is going to family wedding (which we can't all go to for money reasons) but his mum and dad are already there, my mum is coming over on Sun as it's her birthday and that is about all i could bear of her anyway!

Know what you mean about mothers - I have managed not to tell mine about 6 weeks off work last year and 3 just now!

Take it easy and let your dcs have a couple of 'breather' days before going back to school (not sure of their ages but assume at least one is at school?) and try not to beat yourself up if you they spend 'too long' watching tv or playing on the computer / DS / Wii etc, or you cannot keep up with the housework (my house is a tip when dh is away as he does the washing up, I only do it when i run out of dishes ) and a couple of days 'off' won't hurt them and could do you all the good in the world The weather forecast is good so have a lazy day in the garden and be kind to yourself.

If your family are all at the wedding can you rope in some friends to get you out of the 'trapped' feeling I get when alone with the dcs and cannot even pop to the shops for milk / bread without them coming too!

Am going to bed now as really tired from a long hot day out with the dcs. Will check in tomorrow ... Sleep well

MerlinsBeard · 29/05/2009 22:52

Ah i always feel trapped as i always have one of them with me - even in bed at the moment

They are 6, 4 and 14 months. I can't ask ppl to come round, it's just something i have never been able to do! At least i can open the back door and just let them run wild in the garden

Hi MOM hope you are having a good day. I am watching the FA cup final with the dcs - dd very happy as she is a Chelsea fan

Had a busy day with footie this morning - parent's v kids match (which we won ) then ds haircut, lunch at the pub and eye tests for both dcs. Glad to get home!

Shall go out and do the weeding now it is a bit cooler - have located a couple of boxes for the cuttings as my green bin is full and not yet collected because the bin men are on strike

How are you getting on?

MerlinsBeard · 30/05/2009 17:32

Aww thank you for checking in

Am distracted today Had to go into town to get my mums birthday present and ended up going in pretty much every shop!

Hi MOM - is your dh back yet? Hope you had another good day?

I am knackered after a long day in the garden - waiting for the water to heat up for my bath then I am looking forward to a loooong soak.

I sent dh to B&Q to get a lawn spike for our rotary which we have not used since we bought this house nearly 2 years ago. He got one, put it in and we have done 6 loads of washing which is now all dry.

I have also planted 78 snapdragons and 12 marigolds, cleaned out the bunnies, dug out the rose bed / rockery and seeded with grass seed and weeded the front garden!

How have you been?

MerlinsBeard · 31/05/2009 21:01

No DH not back until wednesday evening

had my mum here today which was nice in a way but she is VERY wearing

got the anniversary of my m/c 2mo which i am still not over and i know i should be, DH away and BIL is getting married 2mo and feel i can't even be happy for them

Sounds like you have had a fab day! I meant to do some gardening but busied myself separating DS1&2 most of the day - they fight like...well..brothers!

Sorry to hear about the mc - I don't think you ever 'get over' something like that, just gradually become better able to deal with it over time. It has taken me nearly 10 years to come to terms with the death of my grandmother so it takes a long time.

Glad you had a good day yesterday with your Mum tho - fully understand how it can be fun and tiring at the same time!

Hope today was OK too in all the circs - I was fairly lazy altho made more use of the rotary line with 4 more loads of washing (altho one is still out there now )

We can commiserate with each other tomorrow night - my dh is away at 4am tomorrow and back late Wed night.

Not looking forward to it as i am back at work on wed after 3.5 weeks off and could really do with him here, both for support and as both dcs have a school trip and need packed lunches, waterproofs, suncream etc ... plus it seems ds has just started to get hayfever so I will need to get him to the docs tomorrow for prescription medicine as the stuff I bought OTC only last for 4 hours and school will only give them prescription medicines
