Hi sweetie.

Run yourself a glass of water, then come and sit down and sip it slowly.
You are shaking because your body has dumped a load of adrenalin into your system. It's your bodie's defense mechanism when something has frightened or stressed you. (think fight or flight)
You will be breathing faster and so you need to slow that down.
Take a deep breath in and count to 8 whilst you do so.
Now let it out and count to 8 slowly. Keep nreathing out until you feel a pulling sensation in your diapraghm area.
Then repeat a few more times.

keep talking, i'll sit here with you.

thank you, I am doing all that, thank you

I know this is irrational, i know this is fear, and I am being kind and sympathetic to myself (rahter than berating mtyself for reacting like this) but it is not working

I want to run, excet I know I cant, and I woudlnt be able to if I could

I hate this

thanks Christmasspirtis

i know how your feeling naswm i get anxiety alot
i also get that i want to run away feeling but in reality you cant run from anxiety its still gonna be with you isnt it !
try the breathing technique of breathing in your nose and long breath out through your mouth or you could use a paper bag.
drink lots of water
remember it will pass
would a hot bath help ?

naswm · 25/02/2009 19:16

I know how you are feeling too. I get a big clamour in my head which is really hard to cope with.

I find standing very still and staring into a point in space helps to take the edge off it.

Try to let all your muscles relax completely.

Hope this passes soon.

I don't know how to link to threads but if you scroll down a bit in Mental Health there's one called "My therapist's tips for anxiety" (last updated 17th Feb) which has some excellent advice. I hope you feel better soon.

Idrankthechristmasspirits · 25/02/2009 19:23

naswm. You're doing all the right things though and that's good. You will get to the stage where you can push it away i promise.

I had anxiety attacks 10 yrs ish ago and had a course of counselling. It took about 6 months but it worked and i am fine now. Every now and then i might have a little wobble but i know how to cope and it is ok.

How are you feeling now? Any better?

candyfluff · 25/02/2009 19:24

I feel so pathetic. I shopudl be an expert at this. I am doign all you kind people suggest. And I still get totally overwhelemd and panicky. And I dont even know what I am afraid of. Because I can rationalisse myself out of everyting (syaing ho I would cope etc) and yet the anxiety still comes. I hate myself I hate myself I hate myself

Well at the moment I'm probably the wrong person to offer advice, feeling much the same way myself.
Just didn't want this to pass by though

naswm · 26/02/2009 19:19

anxiety has lessened, thankfully. Last night was my worst night in a long while though. Really dont know how I got through it. This evening I am extremely stressed, but not anxious. Both states can lead me down dangerous paths, unfortunately, but I feel more able to cope tonight.

Sorry you were not in a good place either last night Saltire. How are you today?

naswm - sorry you are feeling this way, I know exactly how your feeling, it's just horrible.
I know this may sound silly but I do find if I have a cup of Chamomile tea if really helps to calm me down for a while. Unfortunately it doesn't last
Stressed caused my anxiety to hit and all time high and I had a huge panic attack almost two weeks ago. Feel free to off load if it helps

cheapskatemum · 26/02/2009 21:25

naswm - I know how you feel, I've started feeling just like this recently and hate myself for it and just want to go back to the happy, carefree, optimistic person I used to be. I hate the taste of camomile tea too!

Do you know what is making you stressed? Can you get away from it?

naswm · 28/02/2009 20:16

Thank you for the messages. I havent been back to mn since Thursday. I am ok atm. Not great, but ok. Sorry others are suffering too

Unofrtunately I know the causes of my stress and get away from them as often as I can, but I still have to come back to them

Tonight is ok though, I think

Hi Nas, I have had these shakes for months, and they are just starting to go. They really make you feel horrid don't they. The doctor says you just have to give it time, and she is right. I try to get outside as much as I can, gardening, walking etc. There has nothing i have found that works for the shakes except distraction, and those Kalms pills. I have rarely taken them, but found when i did that they did work.

naswm · 02/03/2009 18:55

Not been back since Saturday, sorry. Thank you for sharing that with me moose (great name btw) I am glad you are beginning to feel better.

I am feeling stressed this evening. And stess leads to anxiety (for me). Not sure how to deal with it, because it isnt that easy to remove the stress. Am sitting here for a little while in the hope I can calm down
