Feeling better at the moment.

Think higher dose of tablets have kicked in.

DH has been at home nearly all week so that helps, plus PIL have had the kids so we have had a slightly easier time.

I must be a bit better as I am baking again! I made cheese and onion bread and some muffins a couple of days ago and are half way through blackberry and chocolate tart now.

Can you tell when I am feeling better? Does it come across in my posts?

so pleased to hear it nab i've been keeping an eye out for you posting an update.

now was it a bike you have? seriously, get out there while you have a little time/energy to give you a bit of an extra boost.

Nabster · 20/02/2009 14:32

Aw, bless you.

Yep, I have a bike. I haven't been on it due to the snow and rain but I intend to next week once I get the kids bak to school.

I am going to go in the morning and do my jobs after lunch when DS2 is napping.

Glad you are feeling better. It is interesting how it's sometimes hard to see the effects of ADs. You analyse your mood to see if you are better, and perhaps you are not sure. But then you suddenly 'notice' aspects of your behaviour e.g. the baking and think 'Wow, I couldn't have done that before, I must be on the up.'

I remember a bipolar woman I once knew. She was in a depressive phase and struggling to slice a tomato. At the same time she spoke of some hugely complex dinner party she had prepared when in a high phase. She kept staring at this tomato, overwhelmed by the impossibility of doing anything, and overwhelmed by how different she felt at other times.

sounds like an excellent plan. i've been deprived of my usual exercise this week (half term, sick baby, sore knees) and i was astonished at how quickly my mood plummeted. luckily for everyone i made it out for a "run" today and all is right with the world again.

take care.

ThreadieMair · 20/02/2009 14:44

Agree completely. Exercise seems as helpful as ADs for me.

mileniwmffalcon · 20/02/2009 14:46

you're right there threadie, a sense of perspective is so hard to achieve with depression, when i'm well i find it impossible to imagine ever being any different, same when i'm down. there's only ever a brief window of change when i can ever see both sides together.

I feel awful at the amount of packet food my kids ate when I was feeling really low. None of it would have done them any harm but it isn't what I would normally feed them. I just couldn't be bothered to shop and cook properly for them.

I am now worrying a bit as I can't stay on this dose for long.

did gp say that? surely if it's a safe dose (i.e. he was prepared to prescribe it for you) then it's safe for as long as you need to take it? certainly safer than leaving you in a crisis without adequate medication.

Nabster · 20/02/2009 19:13

Last time I saw him he was expecting to put me on a lower dose, not put me up. I was already on 10mg more than he wanted me to be and I knew that was only for a short time. I assume this is the same.

tbh nab, from what you've said i really don't rate your gp. irrespective of what he "wants" you to be on you need a dose that actually works as in it enables you to function on a daily basis. the dose you were on before wasn't doing that.

i've been on higher than standard doses of meds before now (but safe according to the books they look stuff up in) and i've been on them until i felt better, as in felt ready to reduce the dose, months and months at a time. not until the doctor decided i'd had it long enough

it surely can't be a safety issue because then he wouldn't have prescribed it in the first place, so it sounds more like an "i know best" issue which would have me seeing someone else next appt...

Nabster · 20/02/2009 20:47

I intend to stay on this dose for a while longer. Next week will be a hard week for me and I don't know how long any repocussions will take to ease.

Thanks for being here.

Agree with mileniwmffalcon. Don't let the gp bounce your dose down too soon unless you feel it is ok for you. If the higher dose is helping, stick with it for months not weeks. Eventually, once a higher mood is stabilised, it may well be possible to reduce to a maintenance dose without your mood dropping.
