obsessed with spinning objects

My 19 months old DS has always been a bit obsessed with spinning objects. He spins saucepan lids , CD cases, balls, etc. He is quite skillful in this, but it makes me worried sometimes as children with PDD may be obsessed with spinning objects too. We have been trying to limit this behaviour and not givin him saucepan lids, etc, and take from him whatever he tries to spin. Otherwise he is spending too much time on it.
Do you think I should be worried?
Anybody else had similar problem?

children at that age can often really enjoy repetetive behaviours - that is why one ofthe oldest toys are things like spinningtops.
there is no reason why this individual activity should be an issue.
the only reasonto question it further would be ifthere were any other behavioural/developmental issues that bothered you like poor eye contact, little or no babbling, liningthings up, lack of social sharing and contact etce etc all of which can be flags for ASD.
But spinning stuff on its own isn't an issue

Thanks Pagwatch.
I am a first time mum and coming from a very small family (only child of a professional couple), have no siblings, no close relatives with small children. I am very very inexperienced and I don't know childrens' normal behaviour. I had never had an opportunity to observe until I had my baby.
So do you think I should leave him alone and even buy him a spinningtop? He gets excited when he sees them in a baby einstein video.

we've all been there !

I think you should let him do it but encourage him into other activities too. Don't worry about it unless he is pretty much only cravingthat type of activity and isn't progressing into other things. I wouldn't worry about it but don't reinforce it either IYSWIM
