bipolar meds yo-yo questions

gutted to realise have been off my meds for a few months now, put in a repeat request but am worried:

  1. that it might not be issued as failed to show up for meds review

  2. that it might not be good to just resume everything at the normal dose

  3. that I'll inexplicably drift off them again without realising, this must be about the 6th time in almost as many years

please help me to pull myself together and to get back on them pronto, my life is unravelling!

I'm bumping your thread in the hope someone has some sound advice. Best wishes.
Love the posting name

Please do what you can do to help yourself. I am very very lost at the moment and feel like I am drowning in a whirlpool that is sucking me in.

Everybody deserves to have a chance to be as in control of their lives as possible, and surely they should recognise that missing an appointment may be symptomatic of your problem.
Don't let your life unravel if there is a lifeline out there for you. Grasp it as tightly as you can because however hard it seems sometimes, life is precious

Talk to your doctor about the drifting off them and see if they can advise in how to avoid this.

If you needed a crutch, you wouldn't walk without it, So be kind to yourself.

All the best.

Nobody will mind you didn't show up to meds review. I would be surprised if there is a single bi-polar patient who has been to all of them. It goes with the territory.

Go to the Dr and ask about dosage etc.

My BIL has injections so he can't drift off them. Is this something you could pursue?

MitchyInge · 29/01/2009 22:28

thanks everyone

I wouldn't like the injections, I like to vary the amount of anti-psychotic I take (within reason) but if the others (mood stabiliser and anti-d) came in that form I'd be thrilled!

I suppose I will have to be brave and talk to the GP, yikes. It's such a stupid thing to get my knickers in a twist over.

Meds ready for me to pick up now, hopefully. Luckily they issued the repeat without quibbling the overdue review thing. When/if I grow up I am going to take a very mature and proactive approach to my health.
