Self confidence issues - does hypnotherapy work?

I am a SAHM and have been for the past 13 years.

My 3 kids are now in school and I have realised that in all my time at home my self confidence is on the floor.

I get very nervous/shaky in new situations and sometimes get a little paranoid.I had an informal meeting for a course at a local uni this week and was a bag of nerves it was truly pathetic!!

When I do go out to social occasions e.g. my dh work functions I feel that I am having to justify me being a SAHM and almost feel embarassed/worthless.

WOndering if hypnotherapy would help or should I be looking at counselling?

I think that the greatest "cure" for low self-confidence is knowledge and eloquence. If you can deftly and accurately defend your own opinions about the world at large, you can go anywhere.

Do you belong to a book club or other discussion group? Or just come on MN a lot and hone your debating skills and get some style & beauty advice . That will help, and it's free.

Hypnosis: It depends what the root of the issue is. Hypnotherapy can work on the problem itself and solve that, thereby freeing you of the self confidence issues. Of course, cometimes there is no trigger (or is it completely irrelevant) and you can still do some exercises in relaxation/self confidence. Hypnotherapy always starts with ego-strengthening and confidence boosting. When you are in a strong mental state you can deal with other issues.

Hope that makes sense.

Maybe a course in something just for you would boost your confidence: art, maths, drama, dance, literature, OU, new skills for jobs...
