but do any of you have anything good to say about these pills? Have they helped you at all?

I was on them for a year (20mg). they did help. I felt a lot better. still had some low days but not nearly as bad as before.
I will say though that coming off them was really really hard.

it's hard that first time. i felt like i was a failure for having to take a pill to make me feel better. but in the end i'm glad i did it. it got me through the roughest times.
but it's a really personal choice,
have you looked into other options? CBT etc?

CaptainKarvol · 10/12/2008 20:09

I also used them for depression and anxiety. They did help.

I did feel 'drugged' at first (I might be very sensitive to the feeling - I'd never dabbled in recreational drugs so had no experience of feeling doped). I lost my appetite for a few days and my pupils dilated. I also had very vivid and colourful dreams while taking them.

They stabilised my mood, allowed me to get better.

I would have preferred CBT, but it wasn't on offer.

I had no problems coming off them.

Yes. I had them for over a year. Very useful in stabilising moods, it kinda irons out the bad days and good days so you feel better most of the time. No problems coming off them tbh. If that is what has been prescribed then do give it a try.

I take them. In the past I have found them better than alternative ADs, especially for dampening anxiety.

I've been on and off them before and haven't found any problems I've not had with other ADs.

(Agree about the vivid dreams, which are a real bonus.)

They are not earth-shatteringly helpful, but quite useful and nothing to be afraid of.

MincePirateCat · 10/12/2008 23:18

i was on seroxat for too long it transpired. It didn't help me, but thats not to say it won't be ok for you.

I did nothing for 2 yrs almost, and i felt very suicidal actually on them at times.

I am on prozac now, have been for yrs, and it suits me. no side effects for me.

TotalChaos · 10/12/2008 23:20

I took them a while back. They definitely worked. But didn't like the side-effects - felt a bit dizzy if didn't take them at bang on the same time each day. But fortunately didn't have trouble coming off.

SpirobranchusGiganteus · 10/12/2008 23:24

The anti-Seroxat coverage was very over-the-top. They are no longer prescribed to children (which they never should have been) but GPs are still pretty happy about prescribing them to adults, though not usually as the AD of first resort. You have to be more than usually careful to come off them gradually. And there are the extremely rare cases of serious restlessness and increased suicidal behaviour when you first go on to them. (But most drugs have some nightmare rare side-effects.)
