.. can anyone reassure me that they'll work please. I spent a couple of years on Prozac following the birth of DD and came off them as not working brilliantly even at high dose.

I have severe to moderate anxiety and moderate depression, (did the hospital anxiety and depression test sheet thingy at GP's today).

Will write more details later.

Thanks in advance guys.

Hi, I started taking sertraline (Lustral) just over two weeks ago and they've just really started to kick in. Have been suffering from crippling anxiety and they really seem to be taking the edge off.

I'm sure you'll know from taking SSRIs before that they can take a while to work, so try and be patient and positive. Good luck. Has your GP suggested any form of therapy? I'm getting 6 sessions of CBT on the NHS which I'm hoping will help too.

LilRedWG · 08/12/2008 15:41

Thanks Mocca. I'm glad to hear that yours are kicking in so well.

I'm not going to start taking until DH is back from a business trip he's on, just in case I suffer with any side effects, but he'll be back at the weekend so I'll start then.

I'm down for CBT and need to chase that. I am also having loss counselling which has been fantastic. I just want to be rid of this constant state of panic/tears/rage and get me back.

LOL

I thought you might like that!

dizzyjingles · 08/12/2008 16:56

hi Red

I was on citalopram after both DD1 and DD2 and it was just fine. I found I was suffering from anxeity and depression, esp after DD2 for example I stopped going into shops as I was having wild panics that I was going to set off the alarms when I left I've never stolen anything in my puff!! I also sat in the car crying if both girls were sleeping as I couldn't decide which one to carry in first and which one would have to wait in the car

examples just to let you know that the citalopram smoothed it all over and I had no side effects at all. Came off is without issue both times as well and am happy in the knowledge that its there if I need it again

hth

dizzy~really like the examples of anxiety.
red~hi what is loss counselling?
Hope you are ok.

LilRedWG · 08/12/2008 21:18

Thank you ladies.

Snowcrystal - I'm sorry I wasn't very clear. I'm having counselling for the loss of two babies (MCs) before DD was born.

Hi

I've been on Citalopram for just over 12 months and am coming off them now.

After the first 4 weeks I had no side effects and coming off them has been a measured, successful process. They've made all the difference to me so good luck.

snowcrystal · 08/12/2008 23:28

sorry to hear that

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 08/12/2008 23:42

They're supposed to be a really good one, I react to the AD's I've been tried with, including this one but I know people on it who think it's good. They seem to be a popular choice for mothers too.

IdrisTheDragon · 08/12/2008 23:59

I take citalopram and have done for a bit over a year. Am starting to come off them now and like baffledmum they have really helped me.

CBT has also helped a lot too.

I had slight nausea when I started taking them but that was about it really.

Andthentherewerethree · 09/12/2008 11:30

hi,
I took my first citalopram this morning. I have just recently braved the fact that i have depression, now i realsie this ahs gradually worsened since ds1 was a baby and has become significantly worse in the last year. so this is a mjor step for me to admit hwo i have been feeling.

I am looking forward to feeling 'normal' again and having the nenergy to do things that others take for granted.

I hope they work for you too, LilredWG.

Any other advice for a newbie to the world of a/d's?

thenewme · 09/12/2008 11:31

I know they work for me as I was really bad when I came off them.

lulu41 · 09/12/2008 11:36

I have been taking them now for about 6 weeks - first two weeks sweated abit more than normal and a bit sicky and yawning all the time - they work really well for me - feeling so much better even on bad days ie. days when shit just happens I cope with it way better than before - good luck

Andthentherewerethree · 09/12/2008 11:50

excellent news lulu thats exactly what i wanted to hear, fingers crossed they work for me too. I am so pleased they are workign for you.

stressedsanta · 09/12/2008 13:33

ive been on mirtazapine four wekeks now and they have started working im glad i stuck with them coz at one point i felt they werent working.i have a counsellor booked but they couldnt fit me in until end of january .

Andthentherewerethree · 09/12/2008 13:54

i think 4 weeks seems ot be the point when they all start working, tbh i wish it was quicker, but i will stick with it, am determined not to ruin christmas with my moods and down in the dumps attitude, like i did last year.

fancyflo · 09/12/2008 14:21

Have these affected anyones driving at all?

Zottie · 09/12/2008 14:26

Oooh yes, would have been a danger on the roads! They worked for the depression for me but I felt floaty and light, my friend said I looked like I was a fairy dancing when I walked. I found them really spacey and trippy so alas I had to stop, I also had some other side effects too, aches and pains, headaches and nausea. Not for me But then I think I'm a rare case. I loved the floaty feeling though!

LilRedWG · 09/12/2008 21:30

Wow! So many replies. Thank you all so much for your reassurances. I'm glad that they have worked for most of you and that you are feeling better.

I am just at the end of my first packet.

I have PTSD and am at the beginning of a year long course of EMDR. I have found them to be helpful so far.. I feel less stressy about everything but the deeps seated anxiety is still there at the moment. My next packet is going up a dose so maybe this will help with that bit.

Good luck to you.. please keep posting as often as you feel about it.

ATadgeUpset · 09/12/2008 22:55

I've been taking them for five weeks now and they have worked for me (PND), feeling much better.

Had trouble sleeping for three weeks, loads and loads of yawning, could sleep in the day but not at night!! Sweating and restless legs, but they do go eventually!

Hope you feel better soon xx

LilRedWG · 10/12/2008 10:11

I'm going to get the prescription filled today and then start taking at the weekend when DH is home. Glad it's working for you both - feeling less stressy would be fab!
