CITALOPRAM AND TTC??????????????

I already posted this earlier but somehow mistakenly posted it in 'telly addicts' so am re-posting it here to see if I get more responses.

I started on citalopram about a month and a half ago for mild depression (10mg building up to 20mg). I was feeling a bit down and anxious and weepy at certain times of the month. Only problem is we've been waiting to ttc. When I told the doc this she said it would probably be best to wait till i'm off the citalopram which would be in 6 months time.

I'm feeling really good and like I can see things more clearly and almost feel like I could cope without the tablets but i'm not sure if thats just cause i'm on them iyswim.

We really want to get on and ttc and i've been wondering if I should talk to the doc and slowly come of the citalopram and see how I am. I've read in to the risks of taking them and ttc on the internet and although I haven't read anything that worries me I would feel more comfortable ttcing if I wasn't on the tablets.

It was the doc who suggested I go on the tablets and she didn't offer counselling at the same time (which I understand NICE guidelines state you should) I have since asked her to refer me for counselling and am on the waiting list which should take about 4 months.

So I was thinking of coming off them over the next month and a half then ttcing in dec. Does anyone have any advice on this? Would be grateful for any input, thanks

Hi, i was in the same boat.
I was on them for about 2 years and they did me the world of good, i weened off them because we wanted to ttc (still are ttc 11 months on). I actually waited to be off them for about 3 months just to ensure that they were out of my system completely before starting ttc.
The weening was hell for about 3 weeks but i now feel me again althought as you say, i have some bad days each month but not so that i feel unable to pull my self together like i did when i first went on them.

Talk to your Dr, if you are awaiting councelling it may be a good time if you feel ready.
TBH you havent been on them for very long have you.

No thats right. It was my gp who suggested them. I felt like I was coping but thought i'd give them a go as I was a bit down. I can now see things in perspective more and have realised I just need to look after myself a bit more and make sure I get out, eat healthy etc I feel like I was in 2 minds as to whether to go on them in the first place.

I do feel ready to ttc and I feel like my life is on hold now as I am on the ad's but just want to get on with it.
