Paul McKenna CD and depression

My sister recently gave me a copy of Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Slim (big hint, thaks sis!), which comes with an auto-suggestive CD. However, it also comes with a warning that people with clinical depression should not listen to the CD.

Anyone know why? I am being treated for clinical depression so am wary of using the CD, but can't really see why it would be a problem.

Not sure, but I do know the hypnotist who helped me stop smoking asked all about depression etc before she began.

Thanks charliecat. I'm just not sure whether to risk using the CD or whether they are just covering their backs.

JAQQ, my mum has clinical depression and for the past 3 years has also had atypical OCD which she believes was triggered by listening to a 'relaxation' CD. It had a similar warning on it.

I should say that we have no proof of any connection to her OCD at all but she is utterly convinced of it... Don't want to scare you but with things lke that I would say better safe than sorry - if it says don't listen, I wouldn't try it.

don't know much about this but IIRC it might partly be connected to the risk of a hypnotism type cd triggering flashbacks of unpleasant events if you are depressed.

like snafu says, I would err on the side of caution. why not ask your GP/psych next time you see them whether they think it would be OK?

Thanks snafu, mummytosteven. I think it's best if I bin the CD.
