Does anyone suffering with anxiety find that when they are going through a bad time with the anxiety it effects bowel habits and causes cramping?

afaik that is very common it seems to be connected just one of those things to make it all worst

I don't, but my dad has suffered from anxiety-related bowel problems for most of his adult life.

'Fight or flight' response (from evolutionary perspective)

If you were about to be attacked, you'd eliminate in order to concentrate on defending yourself

Thank you, iw as reading on the net the other day that apparently we have a '2nd brain' in our gut and if ones off the other follows...or something like that anyway, But i thought id post and find out from real life people not just net info pages.

When i am anxious i go the toilet lots and get awful cramping, its always been normal for me but usually only when i had an appointment at the docs/opticians/dentist (i have health anxiety so these visits always fraked me out) But since i freaked myself out over a bowel thing a few weeks ago i seem to get these pains most mornings, i am anxious when its time to use the toilet, then my bowel starts cramping which then makes me even more anxious, its like a chain reaction.

I swear by Colpermin.
It's peppermint oil and has amazing calming effect on cramping which is gut going into spasm.
Stress/anxiety leading to gut spasm has been bane of my life - till I discovered Coplermin!

(That's me smiling for the camera)

Yes available over the counter. About £5 for 24 tablets, I think - but sooo worth it. I take it with me wherever I go.
Hope it works for you.
